Bit of a hasty post this, but we are currently in the Black Forest. We were originally going to head down to Switzerland & on to the Italian lakes for a bit, but the weather predictions are awful for both. Looks like rain and storms for most of Europe for a while to come.

Where to go?

We thought we might go to Corsica & Sardinia, where the forecasts are more favourable, at least for the near future.

Where's the best place to catch a ferry from?

We are 7.5m & 4.4T - is either island even recommended for such vehicles?

Uncertain of Uttoxeter.

Go for it.

I found the roads in Sardinia unexpectedly good. Corsica is also fine if you stick to the main roads.

Lots of ferries to Corsica from Toulon - with Corsica Ferries. If you book before 14 May there is a €50 discount using code 799922-MAMMA. There is also a route from Livorno to Bastia with Corsica Ferries and Moby Lines which is a short crossing (around 4 hours) and the cheapest.

Last year we sailed from Nice directly to the North of Sardinia which was a good crossing. That might have been the only direct route to Sardinia from France; there are more options from Italy. However, once you are on Corsica, it is a short crossing from Bonifacio at the South end of Corsica to Santa Teresa on Sardinia with lots of sailings at around €150 each way. For me, Corsica is the more beautiful island of the two.

We found Sardinia generally easier than Corsica, both in stopover options and roads and the Sardinians were freindlier, however this was 10 years ago. Ferrys from Italy also tended to be considerably cheaper than from France

We really liked corsica but went when we had a caravan. We went Nice to ille Rousse and back bastia to toulon, both overnight on corsica ferries. You get a year sticker on the back of your van and its good seeing vans with year stickers going back a long way. From where you are livorno, genoa may be a good start point or nice.

The Isle of Ely has been hot ,& sunny 23c the last few days, looks like something similar today.

Probably can't contend with the lakes but the Norfolk Broads are not too far away? 😄

PS and there's the Reedham Ferry.

We have just changed our plans as well owing to incessant rain in Carinthia for our first 8 days from Sunday.
Provence is the only place (bar Spain) where it's dry.
Consideration of Corsica was given and can be again while we are down there.

We sailed from Livorno to Bastia when we visited Corsica. This is the shortest ferry route which suited us with a dog. There are some challenging roads on the west side of the island, inland the main roads are fine. East side of the island mostly beaches. It isn't a cheap place to visit, there are virtually no aires and many car parks behind beach have height limits. So you will have to use campsites which will be expensive if you are visiting in the summer.

Sardinia is on our to-do list. :)

Ok, just arrived at lake Zurichsee, bagged a24hr free spot right by the lake, and the weather is glorious! Choosing to ignore the forecast for a couple of days and see how the original plans pan out.

Oh this is not looking good for us 😡😡😡

Get off ferry at Ijmuiden on Friday and was planning on riding the bikes down to Berchtesgaden then reverse riding the alpine route to Lake Constance before heading the the Black Forest.

May have to rethink otherwise the waterproofs will get well tested. 😳😳

We've just left the sunshine behind in Croatia and currently in Trieste where it's warm but dull, heading towards Verona tomorrow and I'm really hoping that the forecast is slightly wrong 🤣

I feel all your pain… we have reluctantly left the Costas today and are heading towards the French border at Irun. The weather is looking absolutely atrocious for the next two weeks! ☹️

I ve just relooked, having spent most of today creating our Provence map of places we want to hit, and the the weather is now on the slightly moister than damp scale rather than full on double souwester.
Austria still has possibilities for us as we can hold off going in until the Thursday and take our time. Reckon if we hole up around Stuttgart/Karlsruhe or go to Munich for a couple of days we might be ok

Currently in a soggy Montignac-Lascaux as I work my way north. Forecasts for the next week as I continue north aren't encouraging. Looks like a bit of a grey/soggy end to our trip. Can't complain though. We've had five weeks of decent weather apart from driving through a cloudburst in Murcia.
