Any bright ideas on how to replace this reversing camera? (1 Viewer)

I've got a nice low profile camera discretely fitted just below the high level brake light. The quality has never been that great, and now it's getting flaky. So I've just looked at replacing it... I think they must have wired it up before they stuck the rear wall together!

Inside, I can get to the wiring. It's hidden behind a mirror in the bathroom. If I feel into the hole with one finger, I can just about touch the back of the camera cylinder. I've got a similar replacement, and it screws a collar down from the back side... How an I going to reach it?!?

Nope. Just had that out to replace it too... Most of the LEDs were gone. Just two screw holes and a tiny hole for the wire. No slot or anything.

Long shot but might/can the collar be fixed to the inside of the wall so the camera body can be unscrewed from the outside?

The wall is about 40mm thick. And then there's a cavity inside that plastic bit on the outside. I can only just about touch the back of the existing camera with an index finder.

How about cutting a hole around the camera with a hole cutter. Then cut a trim plate to mount the new camera on. If you used black plastic or black painted aluminium it would look like part of the camera.

Hacking the old one out and just mounting a new external camera that used a angle bracket was the best idea I'd had. You idea sounds neater. If I cut a hole just a little bigger, I could pre-mount the flush fit camera in the plate before I stuck the plate in place.

My guess is that the camera will prize out, get a blunt blade around it..

The new one has a threaded collar. I assumed the existing one was the same. If it's push fit, I might be able to lever it out with a trim tool. But I the new one still needs rear access to tighten it down.

A bit of Stika or similar PU adhesive, my twin camera bracket is only held on with Stika.

As Lenny HB mentioned I’d put a smear of sikaflex type around it,

That’s if it’s push fit though…

Could you use a piece of hose type pipe to undo the nut if you think it’s the same as the new one, use new one to see what pipe is a tight fit over nut.
Use a phone camera to take a photo to see what’s in the wall recess.

I think I'm going to hole saw a bigger hole than required. Then 3d print a plate that's a finger width larger again with a precise hole for the new camera. If I print in PETG with the face directly on to the build plate, it should be nice and shiny and water proof. Then just Sika the plate on like Lenny suggested.
