It looks as though our 2 leisure batteries are getting towards end of life at 4.5 years old. A friend who has an electric canoe (big thing) recommended getting lead carbon replacements as they are less susceptible to suphurisation.

Anyone think this is a good idea, or is there something better? Lithium is probably a bit costly.

Is the price for lithium really that much more?

Even the lead carbon batteries quote life cycle in terms of 50% depth of discharge, so if you buy 2x100Ah lead carbon batteries you get 100Ah available before getting into dodgy territory. A single 105Ah lithium gives you pretty much the same workable capacity at a price not that different to 2 premium lead based batteries.

cheers,

Robin

I've got a leoch lead carbon. 150Ah. Happy with it and according to specs can be discharged to 80% dod and still be good for 600 cycles. Not as expensive as lithium and no alterations to charging set up required. Obviously not got the weight advantage of Lithium
