Morning

We have 7 days available to visit France in middle of September. Will be using Calais for arrival and departure.
Can anybody provide suggestions for locations to stay/ visit?

Thanks

Not too far from Calais is Arras, there's a good aire that's a short walk from the town and they have a massive market on Saturday mornings.

Montreuil sur Mer is another nice spot. There's a free aire and you can walk around the town walls.

A bit further is Le Crotoy, a nice coastal town with lots of seafood restaurants. Again the aire is a short walk away from the town. Round the bay is another lovely coastal town, Saint Valery sur Somme with an aire a short walk away.

Hope the above helps.

All the above, would like to add if war stuff is in your interests ipers especially the evening last post.
And of course it wouldn't be right if I didn't give good old gravelines a plug, especially on a Friday for the weekly market in the town square, only twenty mins from tunnel.

Any of northern France is ok, and if you only have 7 days , just a gentle miarander around is fine ,lots of people just dismiss it out of hand in their mad rush to Spain ,but, in can be cold and wet in September much like here but if you have luck on your side it should be ok.

camping and caravanning since a kid. New to motorhomes
On arrival just blast down to the Loire. A days drive at most.
Then enjoy in the splendour of the area with the chateau, river and beautiful towns.
A day to travel back to Calais at most.
👍👍

Since 2008 & many years tugging
If the weather is good just potter around the north loads of interesting villages and places everywhere in France. If the weather looks a bit iffy put your foot down and get a bit south the Loire is normally the start of good weather.

First time we went for three weeks, we had great plans to do Norther France, Normandy, Brittany and the West coast. We only got as far as Mont Saint Michel as there are so many aires on the way, and along that coast. Just go, and mooch, turn round half way through and mooche back. We had a fabulous time.

This whole area is quite pleasant and should be good enough weather for a week in Sept!

Getting back up to speed (returning after 30yrs lapse)
If the weather is good just potter around the north
Just there now, revisiting old haunts from 30yrs ago when I lived in France (other half worked for War graves commission in Béthune).

Glorious weather now - Sept should be good and not too busy.

Started @ Wissant, meandered down to Boulogne-sur-Mer, Etaples, Le Touquet & Berck, down to the Baie de Somme then back inland to Arras, Béthune & Aire-sur-la-Lys.

9 days so far but has not felt rushed.

Plenty of choice of free/paying Aires and/or campsites.

Great beaches, decent food/shopping, WW1 history, some ornithology @Somme, a couple of gardens and even a chateau or two!

To be honest, I am pleasantly impressed by the cleanliness, the civic pride and the friendly welcome from everyone we've met - a huge improvement since 90s (unlike back home...)
