We are heading for Scotland next week with little idea of where to go. Having been used to Aires in France not really sure how to plan. Do we really have to book from one campsite to the next? Maybe there are good wilding spots that you could PM me with. Also useful locations for filling/emptying (I like the French term 'vidange' - it sums it up succinctly)

I understand the West coast has more to offer than the East. We like scenery and 'gentle' walks. No real hard and fast ideas, hence the request for suggestions.

Personally I have always preferred the west coast to the east coast. However, we spent a week in and around the East Neuk of Fife last year and it was beautiful.......the weather was great as well:thumb:
Over the Forth Road Bridge and head for the Fife coast and the little fishing villages like St. Monans, Elie, (the main street here is really wide and great for stopping with the motorhome), Crail, Pittemweem and Anstruther for the "award-winning" fish and chips:thumb: You can take a boat trip from Anstruther out to the Isle of May (bird sanctuary). If you decide to go to Fife then go to St. Andrews as well, plenty parking in the west car park close to the beach.
We spent a week at Sauchope Links site, in Crail, it's right on the sea front and a pleasant walk from there along the coast and into Crail. The Crail harbour gallery and tea room is a nice place for lunch or just a coffee, there are some tables outside with a sea view as well.
Edinburgh is wonderful too, we're off up there next week, a stop over in or around there is ideal if you were intending to go up the east coast too.
We lived in Largs on the west coast for a few years, so I'm a bit biased about the scenery on the west being better than the east.
But there are so many beautiful places in Scotland, you'll be spoilt for choice........the Borders are beautiful too, and not forgetting Loch Lomond and further north from there. I almost forgot to mention, Dumfries and Galloway region is lovely and quiet, we're 2 miles from Gatehouse of Fleet and there are many lovely, easy walks around us.
Can't help with wild-camping spots, we've never tried it yet and [HI]always stick to sites.[/HI] Good luck and happy travels:thumb:
