You don't need a cute dog to get people to stop and talk to you.. You just need one of these..

Never heard of her?

Ah right 👍 - a really old story. That's a house I'd be intimidated to visit though

Seriously. You are scared of anyone who puts up the national flag? Does that just apply to the English or to any national flag?

I lived in the centre of Welsh Nat territory for 13 years, I would invite locals up the hill for St George’s Day Drinks. Rarely did I venture into town without my England Rugby Top on. No worries (y)
Haha Jim I recall you and Sian visiting with us at our local pub to watch the Wales vs England Rugby Match wearing your England Shirt , amidst a pub ful of Welsh rugby fans you were the only one wearing a England shirt …lol

Yep, we have had the Ukraine experience a few times. We pulled into the Morelo Stellplatz and a group of owners jumped up to look at the motorhome and the number plate. We parked up and they did all say, "hello" But not the usual German warm welcome. The next day the group dispatched a member of the group who had a very sympathetic look on his face as he asked if we were Ukrainian. When we said Scotland he laughed and told us we had been the subject of a few conversations during the previous evening. We explained the change from GB to UK, they of course blamed Brexit.

We put an NZ sticker on our UK-registered motorhome when we drove around Eastern Europe a few years ago. As we negotiated a particularly hazardous, winding coastal road on the Croatian/Bosnian border a car overtook me and then came to a sudden halt. We immediately locked the doors as the driver got out of his car and ran up to the cab. With a big, cheerful smile on his face he said, ”G’day I’m from Tauranga, where are you from?”
We were invited to a barbecue at his family’s holiday home overlooking the Adriatic and had to go easy on the wine produced by his father‘s vineyard in New Zealand. The family were among the first Dalmatians to emigrate to NZ and plant vines.
New friends were made through that little NZ sticker.
