Anybody got any ideas about removing a yellow stain from the shower tray in our motorhome. I have tried a concentrated borax solution but that did not touch it

Hi Petros.

You may find an answer on this link.

Nothing we tried has worked ! [share moho with Sara] sadly.. we have ordered a mat which we will cut to size; bit like a yoga mat with holes in it .....

Thetford Bathroom foam spray is very good at bringing plastics sparkly clean.

Could get it Speedcoated? Obviously more expensive than a bath mat but will look much better and be much stronger too.

Petros

Just posted this on link that Joy movan posted above

Have successfully used Y10 on shower trays sinks and cassette loo bowl ,contains oxalic acid in a gel form. It is brushed on over the stain, left on for 10 minutes and then washed off.
()Amazon product ASIN B003HD610KUsed normally to get the yellow tide mark from boat water lines.
Not cheap on first purchase but lasts for a long time .
Wipe it on with soft cloth,go and put the kettle on have a brew and go back and sponge off.
It is slightly acidic but wont harm you trays etc, just follow instructions.

Used very carefully neat caustic TFR (traffic film remover) will deal with the stain.

It must be used carefully, don't use the non caustic as it just will not work. Get the TFR into a sprayer of some description, spray it directly onto the stain, leave it for about 8 seconds then rinse with copious amounts of water, then when you think you've rinsed it enough, rinse it again. You might need to apply the TFR a few times & don't be alarmed when the yellowing starts to run off the surface, that's the whole idea of the job.
I guarantee that it'll remove the stains, TFR is available from good motor factors, so probably not Halfrauds.

Thank you all - am trying a [mad] remedy first ... boiling up rhubarb leaves [full of oxalic acid ] and going to leave the water from this on the shower floor to see how it goes... possibly mix it to a paste with bar keepers friend [which we have ] before putting short hand in deep pocket ! If sucessfull will post ! {dont hold breath !]

Sadly it depends on the plastic used as some yellow as they age. Contact stains will eventually come of with chemicals, but it means the surface of the plastic is slightly porous and so need sealing after cleaning. I use quality car wax, the same as used on the toilet bowl to stop it staining

DIY attempt to use rhubarb leaves boiled / oxalic acid extracted has been what can only optimistically be described as a bit of an error...... resulted in this staining the floor as well as not affecting original stains. In fit of over enthusiasm ( aka stupidity) I didn’t test on small area first -‘what can go wrong ?’ I gaily thought. I am now in Big Trouble, but to be honest the fiasco of this has made me laugh. A lot .

What colour did it stain the floor, if a nice colour maybe make a new batch and paint the shower tray with it 😊

Sadly the stain is what can only be described as shit brown. In nice wavy pattern tho as I swiped it on over the original stains and gaily joined them up .. when dressed and washed car I may post photo as warning to my thousands of slavish fans who follow every word ( mixing myself up with Tic Toc influencer or Bojo here tee here )

Photo took ages to load but here it is - oops

very (F)artistic, you are going to need TFR or some other corrosive cleaner to shift that

Many thanks 😊 for all your suggestions, greatly appreciated 👍 Would the high quality car wax also work to condition the shabby wood surround in the shower room? Mary and Mike

No idea, not tried car specific wax on wood before. However it is a wax, so can't see any harm in trying
