I ve just started looking at the Xmas markets near to Calais in anticipation of hopefully going over last week of November for a quick 12 dayer.

I used the website below to determine where we are off to, and working on aires nearby etc in due course. We have plumped for a route to Aachen and a route back possibly visiting 4, 5 , or 6 of them.

Here is a snipping tool map of where the reasonable ones are (I think I left Bruges out as been there before and I saw the aire is 25 euros!!!) Brussels wouldnt have made it to my cut either and Antwerp, if it has one, definitely wouldnt have made the cut.

I used this site for my info which has some lovely photos. https://www.europeanbestdestinations.com/christmas-markets/best-christmas-destinations-in-europe/

If I have missed any on the route to Aachen that are worthy of note please add them.

For anyone with an interest in going.

(and I found this which is incredibly close to one of the stops (worth skipping the first minute)

Gravelines, Ghent, Valkenburg & Cologne are our choices. Brussels is quiet large and spread over a lot of streets but would get a train into from Bruges or Ghent.

Avoid Hasselt its pretty poor and usually just full of drunk Belgians (I know we have our xmas do there each year)

And just done some more digging and the third project is up and running having opened in July 21 (The cycling video)

Our Christmas market in Bury St Edmunds on Angel hill is very pretty and very expensive to boot. All depends what you want out of life but you can get the same stuff from Aldi at half the price.

For Chester market you can use the roodie car park, however for manchester market the best option is the CAMC site in bury which gives you a half hour walk to the metro in bury centre then 45mins on the tram.

Thanks for posting this as we are off to Germany on the 3rd Dec for 10 days visiting not so much the big Christmas markets but the smaller towns that host some kind of festival/market. First stop is Koblenz, then we’re off to Rothenburg ob der Tauber for 3 nights then hoping to stay at Dinkelsbuhl then working our way back via Aachen then back to Rotterdam for the ferry back to Hull.

We have 10 days starting end November so planning a few markets so long as the Covid situation holds out. Colgne, Colmar, Rothenberg o de tober are on the list and maybe Trier but will work out a circular route soon. Not booked tunnel yet but will do soon.

We're including the start of Cologne on our route back.
