Absolute beginners.
Are those that have bought them still happy with them?
How long have you had it?
Will the 9" version fit into the central pop up cradle on the Ducato dash board?
TIA
We mostly used Google maps this year in France, but it directed us down a very tight but pretty valley, into an even prettier village, with only 2.2mt roads out of the village, and nowhere to make a U turn. Eventually, I managed to squeeze out on the 2.2mt wide road, but Google thought it was such a delightful diversion it would take me nowhere other than back to same route again,@%$*$#@ hell. Some dead reckoning got us far enough away then put in another destination.
Mike.

I am still happy with my 7" screen xgody but recently lost one as the battery swelled inside the case. It was several years old. Probably 10 years and I have no complaints.
I would buy a 9" xgody but dontvreally need another
at the mo. I need to update my maps though.

I had similar results with a supposed Aguri motorhome specific device in Italy. I got into a very similar hole, which completely spoke my confidence. Tbh o think it was my misreading of the instructions and overconfidence as anything. I tried to enter the new route only to be told there was no way out of it. So I resorted to my original standard TomTom to and some of the remaining bravado to get me out of it!
Edit: I should have read this post before I posted! In my defence I was cooking dinner at the time!

Incidentally, I learnt the true width of the van. Just a millimetre or so more than the gap between the two houses I was trying to pass through! But the plastic windows had some give in them, and the gouges polished out. Mostly!!

Hi
in my experience all sat navs make “errors”.
we see it as part of the ”fun” of travelling, not always at the time I must admit. We have also found some unexpected lovely places via the routes chosen. It’s often down to copilot choosing shortest route setting, which will often divert us from a nice bypass into the centre of town & out the other side to rejoin the nice bypass. Hey ho.
we have an xgoody & have used for several years without too much hassle.
Nothing’s perfect & sometimes my partner uses google in tandem. Which can be mighty confusing, especially if both have sound up.
Paper maps are also carried & used occasionally.

I am using my fourth Xgody at the moment in Germany without incident!
The other three are all still working, I just sold them with the van and just bought a new one.

I use the seven inch ones and that does fit in the dash “cradle” thing but the viewing angle is too “straight on” and not angled towards the driver!

My simple solution was cut a piece of plastic about the size of the Xgody ( Perspex in my case), mount that and stick the “sucker” attachment to that!

Perfect it can be swivelled as needed and still picks up all the satellite signals it needs!

Still using the original 7'' XGody, although now in the car. Bought the new 9'' and have it fitted on the angled unit in the middle of the dash. Its much easier to see as it angles better and is more secure than hanging from the windscreen.

Yep, still got the old 7" model, but use a 9" X4 unit with the better screen now, and carry a modern 7" unit (same type screen), as a spare.

TBH, unless they come new with the Truck files, (.ftr), they will still take you down some dodgy routes, but with the latest map updates (2022 Q4) and Truck files, they are faultless.
We are back from a 5K mile trip through France. Spain, and Portugal without the unit putting a foot wrong. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Wonder why Amazon don't seem to offer the 9 inch version now?

Is the sound from the built in speaker OK?

It is loud enough for me, who relies on hearing aids all the time.

If you buy one with a built in FM Transmitter, or Bluetooth, you can match it up to the cab radio/media centre.

The Android units have more functions, but I can't comment of the reliability of them.

The last Android unit I bought came with TomTom maps, which I changed for HERE maps, as they are more accurate and precise with instructions.

HTH,

Jock. :)
