I must make sure the taps are closed before I refill the water system!
I must make sure the taps are closed before I refill the water system!
Etc.etc.

Started to fill the water this morning, not checking the taps. A few minutes later got in the van to find water from the sink, which had the cover on, had flowed onto the hob, and now have water in the gas hob.
When I turn on the gas, water bubbles out.

The question I have is, do I just keep turning the gas on until water stops coming out, and hope the hob will light, or is it more serious than that?

Any advice appreciated.

Hubby did similar whilst we were on holiday.

You need to remove the gas burner top plates/discs (usually a couple of small screws) and use a pipette to suck the water out then dry with kitchen paper (roll up a little piece and make sure you don't leave any in). Then put the top back on - you put the screws somewhere safe didn't you!😱

It should work as normal.afterwards.

Thanks Minxy, will give it a go

We have a switch that turns the pump on/off.
I normally empty the tank between trips (unless they are only a few days apart)

Whenever I empty the tank, I also switch off the pump and open the taps, including the boiler drain tap.

When I come to fill up, if I have forgotten to close the taps the first thing is that water will pour out of the boiler drain.

Invariably this only happens when you are at the front of a long queue at the camp site of people waiting to fill up, and they are all watching you pour litres of water into the roadway.

So leaving it still filling with water you frantically have to find the keys, run around to the other side, open the locker, to flip the boiler drain tap closed, and then go inside and close the basin taps before they start running.

When the tank is about half full I then switch on the pump and run the air out of the system, the hot water needs about twenty litres of air being let out before it fills, which is 20% of our entire tank, so as the boiler fills you can see the level of the tank actually dropping whilst water is going in from the camp site hose.

It means using our collapsible flat hose it can easily take us 20 mins to fill the 100 litre tank.
..... and the queue just gets longer and longer .....

Sorry this made me lol, the times I've put the hose in turned on carried on dining something else.
Then check water level gauge and it not raising.
Then check hose that's OK
The see puddle on ground  🤣

Hubby was filling the MH with water before we went away in December, he'd remembered to close the sink and washroom sink taps but not the shower. Fortunately I went in to put some bits away and heard the water running so quickly turned the shower off. The walls were soaked and there was a very soggy mat but nothing else, I hate to think of the mess if I hadn't gone in! 😱

What makes you think you will remember the sink cover any more than the taps?
Well hopefully I'll do at least one of the two, and not flood the hob again. The annoying thing is, that for years I've not drained down over winter, never had any problems, but this year saw a clause in the insurance which won't pay for frost damage if not drained down. So I did and spent an extra hour and a half trying to get ready to go this morning.
