Hi myself and partner spend the lockdown building our dream campervan unfortunately we need to sell due to issues with our daughter sleeping in it, she is autistic and has sensory processing disorder and finds it very hard to sleep as she thinks the van is always moving even when it is stationery. We are in Northern Ireland and happy to answer any questions

A nice looking finish, well done. More info on age/make of base vehicle may help those who would have an interest. Just a shame your daughter couldn’t acclimatise to her new surroundings

Would a self leveling system help to make the van stable?

I am sorry to hear your daughter can't take to the van. We have a severely autistic grandson who we put on the rear transverse bed with blinds closed and curtains shut, wrap him up in his quilt (the one Grandma made for him) like a mummy when he is at the point of melt down and he calms down a treat. We do have self leveling now so the van doesn't move when parked up.

Our other grandson has mild Asperger's Syndrome and he likes to go into the drop down bed with blackout curtains closed when he gets tired again he bundles himself up in his duvet.

EDIT: love the colour and finish on the van but we are not looking to change ours.

Is it based on an ex-ambulance?

You have done a lovely job. Please don’t think I’m interfering but have you tried a weighted blanket for sleeping? It can make a huge difference to autistic children with sensory overload. I love the idea of a levelling system too. Once she got used to it and it became her safe place this would be a perfect ‘home from home’.

While the finish is lovely, it may be too white for someone with autism. Our grandson was a nightmare in light, bright white places until he was prescribed coloured lens for Irlens Syndrome one of the symptoms of which is thinking the book, or yourself is moving. We took the cue and muted the contrast and brightness in his bedroom and he was much improved. Doesn't want to be dark though. Just muted. Have you tried coloured lights onto the light cabinet fronts etc.

It must be breaking your heart to sell. Have you seen Grianan 's and Meanders' posts above? Really wish you all well.

Have you tried parking it somewhere quiet and then taking your daughter to it treating it like a static caravan, with it wedged so it will not move when she goes in it just sitting outside so it is not the main event. Perhaps keeping some things she likes to play with or favourite foods and just bring them out a bit. At a time so she may associate the van with pleasant experiences and possibly build from there. If it doesn’t move or rock it may work?

I’m sure the advice is well meant but the OP wants to sell their van and may well find all this unsolicited advice about how to care for their daughter distressing. I know it’s all coming from a kind place but they are new to MotorhomeFun and might not understand.

Take your point but having had a similar (but all are different) success to A degree and over a long time got to a stage where we can manage a night or too as long as we don’t move it may have been with a try, as we now get asked are we going to the funny house?? In no way am I trying to advise how to care for their daughter just pointing out our experience. Probably your comment is more distressing as mine hopefully would be taken with the kindness and concern it was posted.

I haven't got my C1 any more and it won't fit on my drive. It is, however, a 'transport of delight'. You should be very proud of it.
