A year ago or more we experienced wiper failure on our 2008 motorhome. A local garage got them going by spraying copious quantities of WD40 on/into the wiper spindles. They told me that I should try and clean them a bit more and oil them.
I subsequently forgot all about it until they failed again on a recent trip. Yesterday I decided to have a go (having been a mechanic in my early days!). I removed the complete wiper linkage with motor attached and was surprised to find that the spindles rotated fairly easily in their housings. Before doing so I checked the main 30a fuse and found it to be OK. Someone has mentioned to me that there might be another fuse somewhere in the wiper system. With the linkage disconnected I have switch the wipers on to see if the motor works…..nope. I have very limited knowledge of electrics, so not sure where to go from here and anxious to avoid creating any further problems. Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks for reading!

Are you sure that you have not power to the wiper motor?
When our wipers failed last year I checked at the plug to the wiper motor and it had power, so deduced that the motor was at fault.
Bought a new wiper motor off of eBay, fitted it and bingo wiper spindle turned.

Thanks very much for reply. I am having trouble removing the little multi plug from the wiper motor. It seems to be seized on there. I know it is subject to water ingress. I can see there’s a little catch but I’ve flicked that up and it’s still solid. I’ve sprayed a fair bit of WD40 onto to to no avail and I’m now going to try warming it up with a hairdryer!

Try direct power to the motor to rule that out.
Thanks very much, I’ll be trying that when and if I can remove the plug, as mentioned in my reply to 2 on Tour. (y)

Fixed it?
Not yet but making progress. Took the motor and linkage out. Extremely difficult to get the multi plug off the motor. Took the motor to an auto electrical company for testing, who found one of the terminals inside the socket had melted (why it was so difficult to get the plug off I presume. Now looking for a motor. Turning into quite a quest.

Thanks for your follow up post 👍

This is the one I bought off of eBay nearly a year ago as per my post #2 of this thread and it's still working okay.

Is the plug that connects to the wiper motor okay?
If the terminals in the plug have suffered with the heat of the socket melting, then it may be a wise move to replace the plug to save further problems.

Thanks to everyone else for their help and advice too.
Much appreciated.

I had been thinking about that too. It would certainly make a belt and braces job of it. I have seen that they’re readily available on eBay.

Thank you very much for all your help everyone. I am pleased to report that the job is done and the wipers back to normal operation. Not the easiest job in the world though, I would say!
