Hi everyone for the last 6 years I have only used our Motorhomes during the
summer I know a lot of you use there Motorhomes all the year round, have I
been unlucky or is there something I don’t know about getting the Truma
fan to run faster to heat up the van during colder times, or do you heat the van
another way, or do you just freeze ⛄️ any help would be grateful as I would like to use our new van 🚐 all year round

I am sure others more knowledgeable than me will advise, but I always found truma blown air produced more heat on the combo setting using both gas and electric, have you tried that? Not had truma heating for a few years now as we currently have Alde heating.

I am not sure that the fan can run faster or slower, it just chucks out hot air until the thermostat decides it is hot enough. Our problem is that once off it has to get really cold before it will come on again.
Maybe check your thermostat as it may have failed.

We have always started it on gas for a quick heat up and then switch to electric when on hook up.

We prefer to be on EHU when it's really cold so that we can use the electric fan heater. We only have gas Truma heating which takes quite a while to warm the van up. Hot water bottles and blankets can be useful if only have gas!

Gas Truma heating has the highest heat output. The electric heating is a max of 1800w, adequate to maintain a temperature if its not too cold but not adequate to heat up from cold. If your gas heating is not a lot better than a fan heater then it must be faulty. Agree it takes a while to get going especially if your boiler is full of cold water.

It will also depend on what outfit you have. Screen and side window exterior thermal covers are a must. I have never been impressed with blown area. We have had several forms of it from Carver wall heaters to Truma heaters. For winter use Alde is the best option.

The manufacturers do not advise this, but seek out the vents and stops the draughts. Also take warm clothes.

Our truma fan can run slow or fast. The setting is eco or high on the control panel.

Electric can run heating only, irrespective of boiler. Gas is the same, but hotter, and quicker.
E6 has eco fan setting, and high setting, but we've never had to use that setting, yet.

We use this in cab. We also have silver screen. We set it on low and turn it right down at night. Ok on EHU and diesel heater when not. Prefer EHU in winter as it’s dark early we enjoy a film inside.

Our Truma heating is more than enough, but our van is fairly well insulated. Make sure that your cab vents are set to recycle (closed) as there are big draughts with them open.

Truma in our old van is more than enough heat to use it all year. If anything it’s too much. I believe alde heating is a bit more controllable as it’s a more stable way to release heat.

If its cold when you start the Truma should start up with the fan running at max. As the van warms up the fan speed will gradually reduce until running very low.
If its not quite cold e ough for the fan too start at max you can select fan on the control panel and switch it to high.

We have never had any problems getting our 7.5m van up to temperature with a Truma Combi.

How well a Combi works does depend a lot on how good the installation is, some manufactures do a poor job. Also depends on the quality of the insulation, vans with aluminium internal walls retain the heat better.

They must be all different with different models. Our fan is only ever on or off. When on, even on electric only, it rapidly gets too hot and the thermostat turns it off. Would be nice if it just slowed down a bit.

Sounds like a fault, even the ones with the older classic controls the fan speed varied just didn't slow down quite as much.
When ours is up to temperature you can't hear the fan and only just detect it's blowing with a hand in front of a vent.
Our is a Combi C6 gas only.

No eco/hot options on the control panel? Ours does but it is a 6E. Not sure if the 6 is different. On Eco the fan is next to useless as it is so slow it pushed out very little heat but on hot it goes full pelt until it gets up to the set temperature and then slows down.

Nearly always run ours on ECO, if it's cold it runs at full speed until the van is up to temperature.

No control panel! Just the 2 round controls. Can select between gas only, electric only and both together. One bar electric or two, but works fine on one bar. I think it would he more eco if it didn’t heat the water anyway whether you want it or not! It has such poor insulation on the tank that it just goes quickly cold anyway.

That is the classic controller, fan speed should still vary with temperature.

I’ve got the old two round knob controller and my fan varies with how high I set the room stat and what stage the boiler is in.

Used motorhomes more in Winter than Summer.

Including Norway in December January down to -19c at least

Thanks for all your replies I think it sounds like I have a faulty unit for the fan has a setting eco and high, the high is only slightly faster then the eco setting and never changes speed. If you put your hand over the vents 50% have no air coming out of them whether on eco or high for this can’t be right. It seems I have two setting on the unit hot water no heating / no hot water no heating !!! The unit is set on combo electric and gas 2

My Truma 6E is the same. Once up to temperature, it waits until you have hypothermia before it kicks in again. I've noticed that the water takes for ever to heat up if you turn both on together. I've found that, unless I don't need hot water for a couple of hours, it's better to heat the water a fair bit first and then turn the heating on.
