I’ve got some good quality external screen covers of a reputable make.
Could I ask please if members leave these on whilst the motorhome is stored all the time.
I’m thinking of doing this because it covers up the well known scuttle drain problem etc. But I’m wondering are they durable over winter?

My alternative is using the internal ones held on (sometimes) by suckers.

I left mine on all winter at a storage place and when I came to take them off the stitching had degraded and just fell into bits,They were an Italian make ,so I bought English next time and they were fine albeit a bit mucky but soon came back to life after a gentle cleaning.

We use ours all the time throughout winter as we use the van we have Paragon silverscreens which don’t seem to have weathered to badly over last three winters.

Personally, if I wasn't using the van I wouldn't put a screen cover on, unless severe frost or heavy snow forecast.

I like to let some winter sun in through the screen to warm and air the van.

Just my opinion...

We leave ours on all the year (unless we are actually driving) and they are still going strong.

They will not stop all the water but I hope helps a lot.

This year they are looking a bit degraded now so now have bought another set for holidays.

They are now six years old and were made by Taylormade.

I never leave ours on in storage. It's easier to clean the screen than the covers! :roflmto:

We use internal Silver Screens all year and find they insulate the cab windows very well during the cold winter months and provide a barrier from the harsh sun during the summer months and quick to remove when needed to move on in a hurry. They may not be as good as outside Silver Screens but we have no room and not interested in trying to store wet and dirty outside Silver Screens on wet days in our van.

Thanks all.
I understand the point about storing wet and cold external covers , been there.
I guess theoretically you only need to use covers at all when you are living in the MH and are therefore breathing out water vapour all night.

I’m thinking of going back to fitting the externals all winter, just seems like the thing to do, however that does mean in need to be a bit creative with mounting a solar panel to keep the batteries charged.
If using no covers I could mount it inside the windscreen.
