Is Portugal a good place to stay for six to eight weeks Jan,Feb, March?
Does not have to the hottest place in Europe but reasonably warm and dry.
Any tips gratefully received
Thanks

Is there anywhere you favour for a long(ish) stay?

Thanks

We've not stayed there for some years but, going on memory, the Algarve is best for weather (if not away from tourists and related prices).

Our latter years in Portugal were all planned around competitions we were taking part in. We spent a hot January in Marina Grande in early 2008, but that may not be the same every year.

the three camperstops owned by the same Co. @ Tavira, Silves and Falesia take some beating.

Parque da Gale is also good.

Yes, looked at that but only one review from the CMC winter rally and that was not good. Have you been there recently?

Thanks

I was there the same time as the review (Feb 2023) and been there for the past 5 years, the building work referred to is a new housing development outside of the campsite at the top end, and these pitches tend to be the ones used by the CMC, I never heard any noise and was fairly close to the pitches.

For info - Turiscampo indoor swimming pool is due to be refurbished and will be closed mid-Sept for 5-6 months.

Whilst we was there over this past winter this is what we received:

Dear clients,

Aiming to improve our offer, we had scheduled a profound refurbishment of the indoor swimming pool complex, which was expected to take place from the 10th of April.

Unfortunately, for reasons beyond our control, it will not be possible to carry out the works at that time and the refurbishment works must now take place from September 18, 2023, for 6 months.

Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience.

With our best regards,

Despite this, we've booked again over the winter.

We have been to Portugal at least a dozen times during Jan/Feb/March the weather has always been good usually shorts and T shirt but chilly at night. You might get the odd day or two of rain but usually short lived. In the early days it was mostly wild camping in some beautiful spots but they have clamped down in some areas but there are more aires these days and a few sites but they do vary in quality.

We have never been so can’t comment. It’s got good reviews on Searchforsites, we may go down that way ourselves.

We winter in Portugal every year. We find January a little on the cold side but it is far warmer than here. Feb and March temperatures about 18 - 24 degrees but you can get rain. The warmest places are anyware on the Algarve. As for booking up the site we use will not take bookings but as long as you are there in Jan you won’t have a problem.

Firstly, virtually everything is open unlike many places where they pretty much shut down in the winter.

The weather in winter has been a little less predictable the last couple of years.
Generally days are good but once night comes the temperatures drop. In a normal winter you will get the odd day of rain and sun but otherwise fine weather for a motorhome.

I would choose the east Algarve over the west, you really notice the difference between the two sides in the winter.

And obviously the further east you go the easier the opportunity to pop into Spain.

Most sites are good but I would avoid monte gordo as the site is just too busy.
There is the odd aire around too like the one at manta rota.

Good luck

We stayed the last month or so on the Algarve.
The motorhome parks at Tavira, Falesia ,Silves and Parc da Gale are excellent value and brilliantly designed ( Park da Gale was only 4 amps rather than 6)

If you love being surrounded by yapping, yelping, snarling lap dogs then these places are a must.

We spent 3 months over winter in Burgau on the Algarve, many years ago. It snowed one night, it melted by lunch time and we were sunbathing by mid afternoon.
Regular storms would remove the sand from the beach, revealing rocks several meters down.
The next storm would generally return the sand, fully washed and replace it back on the rocks.
