Windscreen woes

Just checked my insurance and the max is £1000 windscreen cover ....with £100 excess...

I think I'll get a quote for replacement before going further..
sorry to hear that, a few quid saved on the premium makes the policy not suited to an A class van. Which means it bites you on the bum when something like this happens

I just googled, the screen is available but at a price, 1400 Euros fitted in Belgium. Will be more in the uk

Sounds good that will be a LHD screen great if the OP's van is LHD.
Hymer screens are handed as the wiper spindles come through the screen.

Ouch! That doesn't sound like a proper Motorhome policy.

Adrian Flux only provided £1000 windscreen cover on my policy last year. I asked them what would happen if I got a damaged windscreen. They said claim on the main part of the policy not the windscreen cover. I guess you would lose out on a larger excess and it would likely impact your no claims history. Fortunately they changed underwriter this year and the policy indicates the full windscreen value is covered.

We had our Exsis I A class screen replaced a couple of years back and that was around £1000 From memory.🤔

That may be right for cars but it’s not correct for vans/buses/MHs etc with larger screens. Mine just got through with a crack over 200mm because it wasn’t obstructing the drivers vision.
Give me a break class 4 mot regs do not change from vehicle to vehicle
If your crack is inside zone A or B swept area your tester wants sacking

I refused an Adrian Flux policy for exactly that reason of maximum claim: I find it hard to believe that you could claim on the main part of the policy. They certainly didn't give me full information on the phone BUT I read the policy document when it arrived.

I also knew that SAGE replaced my screen for £2997, of which I paid £75, without any effect on my premium.
ALWAYS check if the cover offered matches the cost of your item: you wouldn't willingly insure a £50k MH for £20k nor a £400k house for £250k just to save a few pounds on the premium would you?

Make sure you get a few & that you specifically state that it is not being done on insurance. you are actually paying for it.

Also you need to make sure it is done by a team that are used to doing coaches and trucks, not just cars, as their skills and experience are needed for 'A' Class windscreens.

A second aside, the CritAire sticker, if you have one, cannot be removed as the ink is the adhesive. I have photographed the label and laminated it.

i am having my screen replaced in a couple of weeks - never thought about my crit air sticker !!! i will do the same thing as you suggest - even though the moho is on their register, it makes it easier just to display a sticker with all the info - so thanks for the tip !

the cost should not be a consideration, pretty much every vehicle insurance has glass cover. A glass claim does not usually affect any no claims discount. So just the glass excess to pay which is usually £75 or below

stone chip repairs are no excess as well
Beware some of the cheap quotes on comparison sites don't include windscreen cover. I nearly made that mistake earlier this year.

Too late for the op if it's coming up for renewal. He could renew on a different policy then claim but it would result in a fraud prosecution potentially if it was discovered that it was pre-existing.
