Hi all, we'd like your thoughts on how much difference the external windscreen covers make to the temperature inside your motorhome? Were nice and cosy with the heating on but get a lot of condensation in the mornings which takes ages to clear. If we can stop this happening and cut our gas usage significantly I guess they're worth it but I didn't realise they were so expensive.

Thanks in advance.

We wouldn’t be without our external screen cover, no problems with condensation and makes it so much warmer in the cab.
In the summer it also helps to keep the sun out which is a bonus when you have a dog.

They're not cheap but a good make will last for years and years, so the cost is minimal spread over their lifetime.

Our silverscreens version are about 10 years old, original receipt says £155 and they're still going strong, used every year, for months if parked up and if we're on a site, theyre Sill in pretty good shape and will definitely me.

Do they work?, Yes they definitely do, our un-winterized a class can get very cold with that great big windscreen but the covers reduce our gas use by a fair amount and we can get her toasty warm, not possible without them.

Zero condensation, and we use them in summer to help keep her cool inside.

Definitely worth having and using. I doubt anybody has really done any test to see how much difference they make with but you know when you have them fitted it makes a big difference, it has to as your cab glass is not double glazed. As @Theonlysue says, dont get the cheapie ones, get either Silver Screens or Taylormade. As well as stopping condensation on the cab glass they also help to keep the heat out on hot sunny day whatever they are.

Agree with the others. Great when it's cold to keep the heat in and stop condensation and equally good when the sun is blaring down on the windscreen to keep the van cool.
We have the version with the roll down middle section with the mesh underneath.
Great for privacy and still seeing out.

It's a no brainer really...
Lots of threads on here supporting the use of decent external blinds.
Zero condensation.
Great in summer...
(We use them at almost every overnight stop and for longer periiods)

As many have said, Silverscreens & Taylormade are quality products and work well

But, they are very big & bulky to fit & remove and and a pain to pack & store, especially when they are wet

As a result, when my (very old) Silverscreens started to shred bits of silver everywhere, I bought cheap thin covers for my Pug
Still no condensation, they keep heat in & cold out when it's cold and keep the van cooler when it's warm
After 2 years they show no signs of wear, pack up when wet or dry really easily - which is why I bought them

In my previous van (VW T5) I had an even thinner one that, when packed, would easily slip into the glove compartment. If they did them for Pugs, that's what I would get

We bought a cheaper screen cover, but soon replaced it with a silver screen. (buy cheap buy twice)

when I do not use it I use a window vac to suck up the condensation and it's amazing how much water has condensed on the windscreen

I've seen vans with totally rusted/rotten bulkheads and front ends, most of the damage caused by condensation running down into that area unchecked. Interior screens are no help, good exterior screens eliminate it entirely. (y)
