Just noticed this,

It’s only a few millimetres would you get this repaired?

Contacted a firm in the area who says it’s £50 without going through the insurance, it’s an A class.

Check your policy its either free or mine is £20 for a chip repair and no knock on for policy renewal
They say it’s free but is it really, I presume the insurance company will pay the windscreen company who come out, £200-£250, so someone is paying for this.

Will it reflect the renewal regardless if they say it’s free?

You insurance policy will state which glass repair company to contact. Book them in online and they come to you and you pay the fee to them direct online. No impact on your insurance. Best get it done sooner rather than later.

I had a new screen on my Hymer A class and two weeks later got a stone chip.
I didn’t want a second claim so contacted National Windscreens who fitted the new screen.
£78 for repair and they came to my house.

You could buy a Windscreen Repair Kit from somewhere like Halfords.
We collected a golf ball size chip in our screen, which I repaired with the kit, until we went to Germany 9 months later and had the screen replaced at the factory.
Almost €5k for a new heated screen, but our insurance renewal was a minimal increase.

With the possible difficulties of obtaining a replacement screen for an A class I would always carry a repair kit.
Chips tend to turn into cracks if left unrepaired.

I used a repair kit, but the cheap plastics are incapable of generating the pressures required to fill the chip properly. Get it done on insurance ASAP.

Yes get it fixed especially this time of year as a frost will propogate it and then you're looking at £2k+ for a new screen.
I was looking at our policy today and it says unlimited chip repairs included. National Windscreens came out and fixed our A-Class whilst we were on a campsite. Covered by the insurance no charge to us.

I contacted AIB the person was useless on the phone, he had to go away and check them came back and said he could arrange a repair but it would affect my renewal, he was so unsure and clueless it took me 4 minutes to explain it was a Motorhome 😬

All the details should be in your policy documents including who to call for a repair and how much it will cost you. I've never spoken to insurance regarding screen repairs or replacements. I've had 3 or 4 over the years.

Capillary action, sucks it in. Shut your inside blinds, throw a blanket over the outside and leave it for an hour. You'll be amazed at the results. The windscreen repair guy can't wait around.

My understanding that thats the proper way. Its supposed to remove any glass fragments that could come loose under the fix. They also did both my previous cars before filling.
