converting ford tran
Hi
I have just about finished the conversion of a Ford Transit high roof ex welfare van.
I foolishly forgot the key issue of two windows at least on one side of the van. I have installed two quite large windows in the rear doors and the two sides have really large windows plus a roof window. Is there any point in trying to get it re registered with the dvla,do they have any discretion on this issue. I have tried to speak with them but without success. Look forward to hearing good news!,

:hiya: And :welco:
A photo might help those who have done it advise you. I do know that you need graphics - even if you remove them after.

It is worth getting it reregistered... you probably will not get "Motor Caravan" but will be "Van With Windows" which has in itself advantages and is regarded by DVLA as having the same perks as "Motor Caravan"

Thanks for this…doubt it will do for quirky Campervan though.

Take a read of this, then see if you can be bothered to try the re-classification roulette.

Sounds like it's not even worth doing it, even if you are one of the lucky 5%.
I can't stand these jobsworths who come up with this stuff. The 2 windows on at least one of the sides of the vehicle are;"to provide a reasonable amount of daylight into the living accommodation" But what if you had loads of roof windows? What is a reasonable amount of daylight? Is this in summer or winter

Thank you, what a dreadful department. Look for help but all you get is civil service blather.

What does the V5 say at the moment?

It is worth doing, even if you only get "Van with windows", and also getting the correct number of seats as well, to avoid any insurance issues in case of a claim.

If it now meets the definition of a motorcaravan internally, then you are likely to be subject to car speed limits as well (plenty of info if you search on the subject).

You may have run out of free posts, but if possible let us know how you got on.

Notify DVLA regardless of the outcome. You will be happy in the long run. Your mot will change to class4. Probably will come back with van with windows, but with living accommodation inside. Do it.
