I've seen lots about securing the doors on MH's but nothing about the vulnerability of the windows
Ok, in my view its a much overlooked aspect of MH security
So, here's my experience when I recently locked myself out of the MH with the spare emergency keys also locked inside as I was in the process of reviewing all the keys I carry around
I quickly assessed there was no way to get into the MH except to try entry through a window.
I picked the bathroom window as the dining table was piled sky high with junk, cleaning out all the storage for guests arriving at Christmas, ditto the bed window area.
First step was to find a shop that sells wire coat hangers, they came in packs of 10, see photo of break and entry tools hanging on the bike rack
Next untangle the coat hanger and bend a right angle piece for pushing on the window catch to hopefully release it.
Then gently squeeze the coat hanger wire up between the window frame adjoining the van wall so as not to damage the rubber window seal, see photo
With a little bit of patience and less than 10 minutes all window locks were free and the bathroom window opened, see photo
Then it was just a matter of borrowing a chair and I was inside.
No one challenged while I broke into the MH and no one even bothered to give me a second look
No one alerted the police
And this was in a quite busy area with 10 or more MH's parked nearby around 09:00 after taking a morning coffee across the road.
It's food for thought, and maybe it's time to review the window security on your MH
