I've seen lots about securing the doors on MH's but nothing about the vulnerability of the windows 😱

Ok, in my view its a much overlooked aspect of MH security 🤔

So, here's my experience when I recently locked myself out of the MH with the spare emergency keys also locked inside as I was in the process of reviewing all the keys I carry around 🤬

I quickly assessed there was no way to get into the MH except to try entry through a window.

I picked the bathroom window as the dining table was piled sky high with junk, cleaning out all the storage for guests arriving at Christmas, ditto the bed window area.

First step was to find a shop that sells wire coat hangers, they came in packs of 10, see photo of break and entry tools hanging on the bike rack 😂

Next untangle the coat hanger and bend a right angle piece for pushing on the window catch to hopefully release it.

Then gently squeeze the coat hanger wire up between the window frame adjoining the van wall so as not to damage the rubber window seal, see photo 😬

With a little bit of patience and less than 10 minutes all window locks were free and the bathroom window opened, see photo 👍

Then it was just a matter of borrowing a chair and I was inside.

No one challenged while I broke into the MH and no one even bothered to give me a second look 😕

No one alerted the police 😯

And this was in a quite busy area with 10 or more MH's parked nearby around 09:00 after taking a morning coffee across the road.

It's food for thought, and maybe it's time to review the window security on your MH 🤔

Apologies for the photos but they're screen shots from a WhatsApp telling my daughter what a fun start to the morning dad was having away in the MH 😂

There have been previous discussions on this.
Search on Lock M Out for one solution.
As often happens, there seems to be two schools of thought on this.
Some say they are a quick and easy way of improving window security whilst others think that that if someone wants to get in they will, and forcing a window with these locks may cause more damage.

Didn't the window catch have a button on them ?

A tea-leaf doesn’t need to open a window, he just breaks it!
We came back to find that was the case and had to do this-

That's the problem, there are locking levers you can buy for the catches but they just break the window.

Vans with double floors the windows are quite a bit higher so hopefully they will choose an easier target.

All my security stuff, dead locks, window alarms, wheel lock, clutch claw are only there to hopefully move them on to next van. I know someone who had them come through his roof light on his Carthago on a site and alarm went off. Got back to site and his German neighbours told him how they did it as they watched out of window and didn’t contact reception.🤦‍♂️ If I get any more stickers on my drivers side window of what I’ve got security wise I won’t be able to see out of the dam thing.

It’s possible this forum is read by a scallywag or two. They probably dont need this idiots guide to get into a van, but maybe we should consider what we post. Sure a reminder about window security is good - but ?
