Could anyone give me advise on how to remove the front side windows please?

Sorry, I don't know how to remove the windows but one thing I do know is that if you have a drop down bed it needs to be removed while the work takes place because the weight of the bed is liable to distort the front once the windows are removed. We found this out when we recently had to have double glazed units replaced on both sides of our van.

You have to remove the inner blind casing, rails, and plastic window trims. This gives you access to the screws and clamps which hold the window frame in place. Once removed, you then have to overcome the mastic sealant to remove the frame. It is best done with two of you and plastic glazing tools. Good luck. (y)

That was not the case on our 99 Hymer E690, nor on our 2006 N+B Flair, both of which have had frames removed for glass replacement.
Could it be that the person who gave you that explanation, was possibly doing so to justify the horrendous price they charged, for replacing your double glazed units? ;)

The drop down beds are installed at the factory once the sidewalls are fitted, and before the roof is fitted. Thereafter, it can only removed by total dismantling internally. Do you sincerely believe that is what happened when your window frames were removed for re-glazing?

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Yes what Jock says, I’ve never heard of removing the drop down bed if taking the side windows out.

My advice would be to look at getting the windows single glazed and then problem free forever. I’ve seen people get new double glazed side windows and in a couple of years the new units have failed again.

i couldn't agree more Paul, ie, single glazed with either laminated or toughened.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

The problem with single glazing is bad condensation I’ve been advised.

Hi Jock, do you know how to remove the screen shutter track?

I know someone with a Concorde who has replaced the double glazed windows both sides with single glazing and hasn’t noticed hardly any difference in condensation.

That’s good to know, might still go down that route. Thanks

If you are concerned about the weight of the be with the window out, 4 lengths of 3x2 cut to be a tight fit braced off the floor near each corner is the easiest solution. If a builder removes the window on a house and is concerned about the bearing weight above, they dont take out the upstairs floor, but they add props

The person that said the bed has to come out, is either lying or has no idea how to do the job

And I know someone likewise who did the same with his Hymer, and will be doing the same with his Flair. ;)
Hi Jock, do you know how to remove the screen shutter track?
There are different variants, so I only know what I did on the old Hymer. The Flair was much easier.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Well, I can't be sure exactly as we weren't there the whole time but we had to meet the company who carried out the window replacement at Travelworld so that the bed could be dealt with first (by Travelworld). Then, towards the end of the work my hubby had to go to the van to discuss something and the fitters were still in the process of replacing some of the trim around the bed area that had been removed to allow access to it. Oddly enough, when we had similar work done under warranty some years ago there was no mention of bed removal but then again, as it was a warranty repair we just handed it over and got it back done.

Removal of trim from the bed to gain access is highly likely, rather than removal of the bed itself.

Jock. :)

mine was done by Travel world. Don't go there whatever you do. It's not actually that difficult but it is fiddly, It's a case of removing trim until you can access what is required. My bed did not have to come out just bits of trim after trim after trim
Start with the window trim and see what you can get to. I have heard of bed removal having to be done.

Hello Hymer Phil,
Looking at your photos your van looks identical to mine, even same colour. I'm in the same boat as you with my B878SL, which needs new front and sliding glass windows on the offside. Please keep this post up to date. You may even find it cheaper if we buy a double lot of the windows. I would probably have the work done in the UK unless you tell me it's not difficult. We live in the south of France near the Spanish border and the offside of the van faces the sun when parked and you could fry eggs on it in summer, which I think is why the seals have failed on both offside windows.

I’m searching through posts re failed side window double glazing…..
Lots of very useful discussions - thank you!
But our old RMB has sliding window with a pane along the bottom. We had these done some years ago but they wouldn’t touch the bottom pane. They all need doing now. Would you think it’s possible to get access to that bottom pane? Or will we need to have a complete new frame made? In which case single is probably the answer ?

Two years? Just out of warranty seems to be normal. I'm still trying to get the passenger door double glazing replaced with single.
