I've been on a few CL's where I've been the only user, but they had facilities and certainly weren't charging £50 a night.

Looking at their Host FAQs it appears that they don't understand the law in the UK. They appear to be saying that, without a site licnce, landowners can allow up to 3 vans at a time so long as each one stays no longer than 28 days.
Firstly, the 3 van at a time limit applies only to holdings of five acres or more.
Secondly, the 28 days (within any 12 month period) is the cumulative total for all vans not per van.
