We now have the funds for a PVC from RP. They are extremely expensive, we are sure about the model, but both of us are getting slightly cold feet about the hatred shown to Motorhomes stopping in the Highlands. There are specific FB groups with people pouring hatred on all campers. What we don't want is to be parked up somewhere out of the way, to be woken up in the middle of the night to be told we can't stop there.

We'd welcome any comments from "wild" campers who have been to the Highlands.

You will never get any sense out of FB groups.
We have been traveling throughout Scotland in a motorhome for years now without any problems.
You need to go up there and do your own thing, you'll soon get your confidence.

Thank you, I live in the Highlands & am aware of the hatred.

What places have you parked up for the night?

Bin Farcebook, it’s a web of hate and lies and you’re exactly the reason they like to post their dribble and spread the ugliness.

I binned it 7 years ago and how refreshing to not bother with the idiots you can find on there.

Go away, be happy and enjoy it all. Just be kind, respectful an courteous on where you do park and you won’t have any problems at all, in fact you’ll wonder what the fuss is about.

Most of whom, have never spoken to a Motorhomer and probably don’t get out much. I have travelled extensively in Scotland and have never had a bad word said to us on our travels.
Please ignore FB and get out and enjoy yourselves.
the Proof is the efforts many Local Authoritiees, Forestry commision and local communities are making setting up Aires etc.

You must also, therefore, be aware that the "wild camping laws" in Scotland do not apply to motor vehicles of any sort.
However we do it... be sensible and pick your spot carefully.
A lot of the so called agro would appear to be around the NC500.. but there is much more to our lovely country than the NC500.
Saying that... 'HATRED' we have never experienced any of that..
Get out and enjoy..

been round most of the nc500 route and round skye last 2 weeks and only had one idiot blast his horn as he went by on skye, so dont worry and go and enjoy the fantastic scenery

If you are at all worried use campsites. Many, many years ago, over 30 as I remember, a German van was wild camping a few miles from us here in Scotland and someone tried to rob him. The camper tackled the thief and was shot dead for his troubles. The murderer was found, arrest and tried. This is so rare I don't think most will have heard of it, but it can happen. I can't forget it.

Hi there,
We have been doing what is now called the NCR 500 every year since 2009 without any problems whatsoever, using a combination of sites and wild camping. Don’t believe half of what you hear, far to much exaggeration in my opinion. We’ve been made extremely welcome absolutely everywhere.
May and September are the best times, just our opinion. ENJOY 😊

If they weren’t apprehensive about visiting Scotland they are now 😊

This really is what I think we should be embracing , wild camping is OK in a very few places , but I have seen too many cases of MH’s parked virtually outside campsites . Or outside in clear view of houses . It’s no wonder some resent our presence

Hi there,
Aire in Inverness opposite Torvean caravan site, wild camped in Thurso adjacent to the river next to the British Legion Club, Durness car park near the ferry, Royal Hotel in Ullapool on the car park, EHU if required, Gairloch just outside the town. Never had a problem, just respect everywhere and no problems in 12 years! Enjoy, Scotland is just fab except for the weather sometimes when you need wine and food and the TVPlayer!😀😀

Just get your van and go and enjoy it.
We have wild camped for years.
Scotland is really great.
Just use common sense.
By and large just think, ”Would this upset me if I was local”
There are lots of places you can tuck away for the night without upsetting anyone.
If overnighting we often park up late and leave early.
If your plan is to be parked up , sitting outside your van and having a beer or two then pull into a campsite.

Scotch mist ....You really do need to read posts before posting.... OP states in #3 he is from the highlands.... so obviously not visiting.
Read post #1 , he clearly states he is worried about going to the highlands in a MoHo , living there & travelling there are totally different things , hence his post in the first place

Sorry you will need to point me in the direction where he states "going to the highlands"
His concerns are quite clearly his concern about wild camping.

If you're gonna run your life on other peoples ranting and stupidity you should save your money.
Facebook (and other) groups are a refuge for arseholes, idiots and karens who all think they are right and generally skew the truth.

I've been to the highlands many a time, when we bought the motorhome last year we didn't bother with an overnighter test locally, we went straight for the outer hebrides for 10 days and only one of those on a campsite, loved it!!

I've not seen evidence of any support from local authorities. Mostly places have a "no overnight parking" notice. Are you sure there are Aires in the Highlands? I've never seen one, we travel the Highlands extensively.

We would hate campsites. The whole point of getting an RP is to not use campsites. We want to be far away from other people, not squashed up with them.

Thank you but all these places are not "wild". We see wild as remote, not being able to see any sign of human habitation.
