Can we talk wifi / mifi etc please? I have to work just a couple of hours a day on my laptop, the company I work for require my IP address to be able to get onto the website. I tried on our last trip, using my mifi and iPhone as a hotspot - but the IP address kept changing so it didn’t work. Anyone got a solution? TIA

I'm with Zen who offer a static IP at no cost. Talk to your Internet Provider.

You will struggle to get a fixed IP address for any solution using a mobile SIM card in either a Wifi or iPhone hotspot. My solution in this situation would be to VPN back to my home router (which does have a fixed IP address) and to give that IP address to your company for authorisation. To do this you do need a decent home router that supports VPN (I have a Draytek), and also a broadband contract with a decent upload speed (say 10Mbs).

The problem is I’m not techy for internet. I’m with BT Internet - maybe if I contact them? Still not sure how to do it on my laptop though

I think BT may offer fixed IP addresses but perhaps for an additional cost. If the existing BT router doesn't support VPN connections then you can simply replace it with your own upgraded one. Your laptop may have a built in VPN software client (MacBooks do not sure about windows) but there will be free ones available. Then you just have to configure it on the router and the laptop to match.

Home. Not sure it's possible with mobile. Gromett may know.
A VPN would be the easiest/cheapest solution. If you cannot find a mobile provider that gives Static IP addresses out.
Static IPs for connections are getting harder and harder to find these days as they are extremely valuable to network operators and handing them out to consumers is frowned upon.

If it were me doing it I would be using a dedicated server from Kimsufi at around $6 a month.
That way it would be private, fixed cost with a decent bandwidth allocation. No need to worry about snoops, logs or anything else.

Then either install a VPN yourself, get a friend who knows, or pay someone from UpWork to do the initial configuration for you.

PS: On the kimsufi servers. The $6 ones get snapped up really, really quickly so you need to keep an eye out and grab one when they are up.

Otherwise look at Digital ocean. but you have to be careful with usage as it not cheap for very high usage. So you could just turn on the VPN for work usage.
You may be able to get a VPN running on their $4 a month VPS. This will give you 500GB a month of data. The $6 a month gives you 1TB of data.

If you decide on Digital Ocean then use my referral code and they will give you $200 credit to spend over 90 days. Once you have spent $25 with them in real money (not credit) I get $25 on my account. This will be enough for you to play and find out if it is a good solution for you.

DO even have set of tutorials, although I have never used them.

One last thing. The advantage of DO over Kimsufi is that you can use a UK ip address instead of a French one.
