I'm a newbie
We are about 4 weeks away from getting our first moho and have thinned down the choice to just a few vans.
Trouble is, I'm worried about getting it through the gap down the side of our house.
I used to get our old 2.2m caravan down with (relative) ease but most of the new choices of vehicle we want are 2.32m wide....
I've cut a piece of wood 2.33m wide which appears to get through ok, but I'm not certain this is a guarantee that a whole vehicle will get through?

Has anyone got any tips / advice?

Thanks from the Edwards crew

Don’t forget the motorhome height any overcab will extend out slightly as you go in on an angle, add to that the soffit overhang.
Post box on wall.
Is that a shared drive?
Would other party mind if that unused brick pillar was removed

Have a look for the layout van, but in the narrow coach built "V" ranges, these range between 2.1, and 2.2.

Panel van conversion.

Living in London, I’m surrounded by 6’6” width restrictions. Hence my Crafter conversion.

All the couriers here use Merc Sprinters or VW Crafters- for a reason, easy to get around.

Looking at your picture, presumably you’ll want to reverse it in?

You’ll soon become expert at putting the van away.

Box in those waste pipes under the post box or at least put a sacrificial wooden post before them protruding just same amount.
Easier to repair/ replace than the pipes.

If it were me I think that brick pier would have to go.

Take note of which side the habitation door is - and where it is. Not an issue if the same side as the driver's door or if on the passenger's side you could exit the van via the hab door.

Motorhome width is given as body width it doesn't normally include wheel arches so that will add 100 to 150mm.
Move the mailbox and rebuild the gate pillar so it finishes on your boundary.

Naw, you just line up the motorhome door with the house door and you don't get wet when it's raining! (y)

Just need to make sure you drive/reverse in as required!
Still wouldn't be able to open the MH door though unless it's a slider.

Have you taken the mail box etc into account?

Yes, it's coming off the wall. The gates have already been removed. My old caravan is listed as having a width of 2.2m and we got that through with the gates on..... But, as mentioned above, the Moho will be higher so the facia / soffit may come into play, and of course there's the wing mirrors, so I need to see how much they fold back - otherwise the post will have to go...... although I'm contemplating asking a builder if it can be rebuilt but thinner, as I do have to consider our lovely neighbour.

I don't sadly but I'm thinking of hiring a removals van for £95 that has very similar dimensions to the type of van we are keen to get.

Easily sorted ... just offer funsters with a suitable MH free beer for the weekend and you'll be inundated! :giggle:

Might be an idea to get them to try the manoeuvring in and out before partaking of the beer though! ;)

We have a 2.52 m van, no issues. You quickly get used to it. We have touched wing mirrors with another van same width once (no damage as slow) ... slowly on a rural suffolk road, but in general it's not that bad. Not as wide as some lorries at least.

Would I get a less wide van next time, nope, we like the fact it allows the width for 2 full singles and a walkway in middle without having the width cut.

We do need to park the car to one side when on the drive to fit it side by side, but thats easy. We only keep the van at home prior to a trip to chill the fridge anyhow.

If we had gates, we'd move the posts, we are lucky in we have a pathway next to our drive then it's the neighbours car. Don't fortget to take into account tailswing on turning, as we need about half a pavemenet in our quite short van.

Have that central pillar made smaller that is quite an easy job but of course you will need wider gates 😊👍
