I had heard that the huge carpark at the side of Faro airport had been cleared of motorhomes. I suspected it was because folk were "camping" (ramps, tables and chairs, loungers out side etc) and therefore not "parking" and staying too long.
Having spent much too much time on pretty busy "aires" this season I headed off to Faro to see what was what and, sure enough, there were very few vans here and there were vast empty areas.
Perfect.
I spent a couple of quiet nights (parked) and yesterday I went off to get gas.
On returning I found a place well away from everyone else, alongside the runway, and settled in. A very pleasant night, morning and early afternoon watching the planes coming in and out every now and again.
Then, half an hour ago, I heard a van engine and watched in horror as a motorhome pulled in front of me and backed up blocking the view out on my windscreen.
One guy got out and I signalled my discontent at his choice of parking space. I asked (in mime and English) why, with all the space all around, he chose to park so near.
He must have understood the word "near" because he then actually paced out the distance and indicated it was okay because there was four (4) paces between us.
I aired my views loudly but being a peace loving pacifist, I just moved my van well away from him onto another space on its own.
I soon heard the dulcet tones of him speaking to the occupants of another van across the way...
No prizes if you guess the language.
Why, oh why, do they do it?
