I had heard that the huge carpark at the side of Faro airport had been cleared of motorhomes. I suspected it was because folk were "camping" (ramps, tables and chairs, loungers out side etc) and therefore not "parking" and staying too long.

Having spent much too much time on pretty busy "aires" this season I headed off to Faro to see what was what and, sure enough, there were very few vans here and there were vast empty areas.

Perfect.

I spent a couple of quiet nights (parked) and yesterday I went off to get gas.

On returning I found a place well away from everyone else, alongside the runway, and settled in. A very pleasant night, morning and early afternoon watching the planes coming in and out every now and again.

Then, half an hour ago, I heard a van engine and watched in horror as a motorhome pulled in front of me and backed up blocking the view out on my windscreen.

One guy got out and I signalled my discontent at his choice of parking space. I asked (in mime and English) why, with all the space all around, he chose to park so near.

He must have understood the word "near" because he then actually paced out the distance and indicated it was okay because there was four (4) paces between us.

I aired my views loudly but being a peace loving pacifist, I just moved my van well away from him onto another space on its own.

I soon heard the dulcet tones of him speaking to the occupants of another van across the way...

No prizes if you guess the language.

Why, oh why, do they do it?

Ha ha, we were parked in Fusen Germany a few days back for one night.. must be 50 pitches and 3 vans. We found a spot well away from everyone due to our noisy dog that barks at anything in any campsite she judges to be her territory.
With her outside and us settling in... bingo.
A whoosh bang wallop van parked right next to us... unlike you I didn't challenge because 1) I'm not a pacifist and never know how these things go and 2) I remember what you told me a long time ago. You can always move on if not happy. But seeing it was just one night I opted to stay put and smile at them..

Enjoy your tour..

Had it in Belgium, parked up in the marina spot probably space for a few dozen vans.
I parked over one side on my own and bugger me didn’t a **** van come and park 5ft away!!
I looked at him and gave him the “you are a tosser “ look and about half hour later they packed up and went😁😁

We were in a pub car park a couple of weeks ago. Big car park with a few cars in. We were quite far from the entrance but the only other motorhome to stay the night parked 3 foot from us.
Just why would you when there where 20 or 30 other places to park?

I’d heard that it had been cleared too.

I guess that vans are drifting back there again then?
We had intended to stop by there but when we heard it had been cleared we didn’t bother. Might drop by on our way back into Spain to see what’s what.
