Who would like some Calor gas in Scotland? I know a man who has hundreds of bottles to sell.

Since 1964 Gosh that makes me feel old.
The Mill Cottage garden centre on Rothsay has more gas than he knows what to do with.
Hazel is literally just off the phone to him & he was explaining about the difficulties people have been having.

Anyway he has large stocks of all the common sizes of Calor, 6kg,7kg upwards.

Now there is a good excuse to go to the Isle of Bute, its a beautiful place & the ferry is subsidised by the Scottish Government, now its not every day that anyone gets something out of wee Krankie.

now if you were to say wee Krankie has huge stocks of hot air or even helium, well folk would not be surprised

I’m pretty sure the gas shortage is a more down south problem. I struggled to give three 13kg cylinders away a month or so ago. One of them was full. We have one more LPG filling station locally now than we had last year. So I don’t think the so called LPG problem is everywhere. I read on here before our Outer Hebrides trip that LPG wasn’t available on Harris and Lewis. That was just wrong, there is at least one LPG pump near Stornaway. We drove passed it and it was being used by a motorhome.

He said that the main depot up here was closed down, so now everything comes from down south and is all automated.

The main depot in Liverpool has closed down in the last week are we missing something???

Must be having a shake up as the Kendal calor centre has closed around our way.
Every time I go past their outlet in Carlisle it seems it's closed ? They've put an A4 notice in the window basically blaming Covid, but I think that must be wearing a bit thin now ?

Same with the Calor depot in Ayr. Something doesn't sound right.

It's not the local Calor centres that are the problem.
The main refinery at Grangemouth in Scotland stopped making LPG & the whole process moved to a refinery in England, I'm not too sure where that refinery is though.
Now on top of that Calor furloughed most of their staff, so thats the ones at the refinery & the local shops.
The upshot of this was that gas cylinders were not checked for dates & safety checks, so they were not allowed to move them, the refinery couldn't get enough bottles to fill & send back to the local centres, those centres could not accept the cylinders anyway as they had no space to accept them.

So where they go from here is anyone's guess.

To the best of my knowledge that explains the problem, if you know anything different, please post it on here as it might just help other forum members

UK autogas shortages linked to refinery maintenance

Autogas shortages have emerged in the UK after domestic refinery maintenance that started around March. A prominent consumer body said this has amplified the effects of Shell's withdrawal from the LPG retail sector last year.

Industry association Liquid Gas UK acknowledged a supply issue "in some regions of the UK… a result of maintenance at some UK oil refineries resulting in reduced levels of propane produced. It is hoped this issue will resolve itself in the coming weeks."

Bloviating Boris Johnson is streets ahead on the hot air and gas front, but,of course, he charges for the hot air and gas. Why DO people feel the compulsion to have a dig at the First Minister of Scotland at every opportunity, however tenuous the connection to the alleged topic? If I want political swiping, I can get better quality and balance on Twitter.

ExxonMobil's Fawley refinery, which constitutes around 22pc of the UK's total capacity, restarted one of its units on 3 June after a nine-week maintenance schedule.
Valero's Pembroke refinery was also under maintenance during March and was only recently partially restarted.
The Petroineos' Grangemouth has been operating below capacity since mid-April, after cutting 130 jobs to reduce operating costs.
