I'm a newbie
We are trying to decide which refillable LPG system would be best for our new (to us) PVC. It seems like the 3 main options are Gaslow, GasIt, or AluGas.

Does anyone have any advice or experience about which of these systems might be best?

We need a single 11kg bottle, ideally with an external fill point, on a Ducato panel van conversion (Rapido).

The previous owner had a twin Gaslow system (which they removed before sale) but the fill point was inside the gas locker so had to open the van rear doors (and gas locker door) to refill … not ideal due to the rear bed / luggage etc)

I have just refitted my two gaslow bottles To my Malibu, depending on your layout it’s not difficult

Hi Lenny, any other reason to prefer Alugas than the height? I'm booked in on Friday and I'm still undecided 11kg Alugas or Gaslow, weight isn't much of an issue, although as a well know supermarket says, every little help?

Had them in the last 3 vans I think they are better made and at 10 years old a trip to Germany you can get them exchanged for not much more than half price did ours last year

If you do not want to make a hole for a fill point in the side of your van - It is easy to run a filling hose down through the gas drop out in your locker and fit an external fill point! I did just this and can safely fill with my rear doors closed.
Basildog https://autogasshop.co.uk/ sells ready made brackets and fill points.

If you have diesel heating and hot water a single 6Kg should last a very long time in my experience.

In my Hymer Grand Canyon, I had 2 x 2.7Kg Gaslow bottles. As gas was only used for the hob they lasted about a year.

In my current van I have one Gasbank lightweight refillable. I don't have a filler point on the van as I don't expect to fill it very often.

I used less than 20% of the bottle on a 5 week trip.

........ replacing safe fill bottles which were a nightmare, as can’t fill unless removed from vehicle.
'nightmare' is a bit strong.

Yes, they have to be disconnected to fill them - but, not nessesarily, removed.

Mind you, I take two of mine in the car. Not really a problem, even when used for heating.

My dealer added an external filler point to my Malibu. It’s on the plastic trim beneath the metal side panelling. No point making big holes in the metal if not necessary.

Gaslow has a fill guage on top - not sure if the others do??? It's not fantastically accurate but I find it useful as it always reaches red well before it's finished so gives time to find a garage.

Our GasIT also has gauges that are also not very accurate. They say it's empty long before it stops delivering gas but gives at least an indication that the cylinder is not full.

Gaslow external fill point also installed by our supplying dealer on the rear plastic side panel. Looks factory fitted. 👍

As G-RMPS says - it also prevents cutting a hole in the van metal bodywork.

We also have Alugas, to be fair was it much easier to source here in Spain but also the weight saving was a major selling point for us

Another one for Alugas (2x11kg fitted).
The top surround on mine is held on with bolts and can be removed to reduce the height a little

Gaslow for me but all good. Autogas 2000 in Carlton Miniot near Thirsk for a top class install by excellent people.

I’d go for a gasit underslung tank, more gas and frees up a locker/cupboard and the filler can be attached to the still…😎

Thanks, good to know.

Interesting locker. Our last Hymer had a gas locker accessed from inside the garage.
