Which is your favourite Port or ferry route and why?

Ah ! I think it must do because when you make a phone reservation you actually get through to the Dieppe Office. Ring them and ask ? Bonne chance....

Harwich to Hook of Holland. Not very busy port and Harwich is only just over an hour away from home with no congested motorways, cabin is good and after breakfast only a few hours onto Frankfurt. Relaxing really. If going to France then always Newhaven Dieppe. Again a small port, easy loading and the promise of a nice stay on the aire in Dieppe and good meal at a portside restaurant before the ferry home the next day. And the over 60 discount!
How long does it take to get to Frankfurt from the Hook? We have been doing the Dover Calais crossing and depending on route and traffic takes from 7 to 11 hours.

For me it used to be Sheerness with Olau Ferries. From my bedroom window I could see the ferry arriving and had time to go downstairs, jacket and helmet on and set off across the old bridge to Sheppey well in time to board for an overnight trip to the Netherlands.

Now I still live in Kent but 4 miles from the Shuttle and 14 from Dover Eastern Docks. Until Eurotunnel decided to charge an arm and a leg for a crossing it has been my chosen crossing either on 4 or 2 wheels.
What years were they ?
Portsmouth to Caen, Le Havre by Brittany ferries for us as its less the 20 miles away, the drive back from Dover after a good holiday is too depressing.
We once got stuck on the M20 from Folkestone. Delayed re-opening after overnight closure for new footbridge installation. Probably 10 plus cops stood chatting and not a one dealing with the traffic. Three lanes getting down into one slip road . To go over a B road to rejoin.

11 hours to get to Manchester
3.5 miles for us to storage is too much😀 from plymouth
Spoilt
Haven’t been on that for 50 years
On ?
Do you remember in the 1980,s when you booked in January to make sure you got the crossing
No, never had that issue. But they were paper tickets .
Well we are heading to France for the first time in September going from Poole to cherbourg. Not one person mentioned going from Poole, hardly a ringing endorsement 😂
Whats wrong with the Poole to cherbourg route?
Seems expensive to me. Even with my BF Discounts .
yes, I prefer the slow drive through France. Done it twice now. Different routes but both really interesting and fun.
So would I. If I had the time
The Harwich to Esjberg ferry was a great way to get to Sweden, but Danish ferries "DFDS" stopped the route and it is now a very long drive through Europe to get to Sweden.
Portsmouth, Bilbao, is a great way to get to Spain, off the ferry and straight into Spain and no long drive through France.
It is a great shame we have lost so many ferry routes.
Did you know Bilbao is now a Two night crossing ?.

Bilbao is better for us as it’s an hour or 60 miles shorter trip. Yes the roads from Santander to Bilbao are pretty scenic the first or second time. But a chore after that. Especially when you are driving some big and heavy.

I’ve switched to Plymouth-Santander for the time being. But by car.

Haven't used any of them yet, first trip across next month:happy: Going via Euro tunnel as it is the quickest and cheapest, then heading for Corsica. All new to us so a little bit scary.

Nothing per se, but the crossing times don't suit us, and if you go to Ouistreham you've avoided the drive down the Cherbourg peninsula. (This is in the car, going to our plastic chateau).

My brother ,who lived in Fulda 100kms east of Frankfurt , allowed himself 5 hours with a stop to get to Dunkirk.
