Don't know if this is the right place, but any recommendations for the best generator? DH was telling me he always used to use Honda suitcase gennies years ago which were reasonably quiet, but also that they've probably moved on hugely.
So suggestions for quiet reliable ones just for back up really, please.

Generators is one subject that certainly divides funsters, a number have bought one for "just in case" but then sold on a few years later as it was not needed, I would suggest giving some thought as to whether you will really need one, batteries and solar are getting better all the time.

If you need one and can use it without disturbing others, then go for it. I use a Hyundai 1000Si which I use at traction engine rallies only for a couple of hours during the day. It is impossible to hear it among the general hubbub of a rally. It has been 100% reliable and economical.

When you say ‘back-up’, is it for anything special or just general power……?? :unsure:

Just general power. This will be the first time we have full timed and I'm just thinking ahead to winter. We have 2 leisure batteries on board and I have no idea what the solar panel is, I just know it's there 😆 we also have a brand new diesel heater on board. All we need is lights and any electronic gadgets I think. Maybe if anything more leisure batteries/solar? 🤷‍♀️

Honda kipor are good makes.

Interesting as I have a SGS 3kw which want to swap for a smaller suitcase model.

What about the red suitcase models in eBay for £200 anyone got one??

You’ll certainly get more use out of extra solar and batteries than a genny……and it will probably cost you the same…..depending on what you were thinking of buying and spending…… (y)

I too bought one as a ‘just in case’. !! Bought off a fellow funster and never used. I even bought a spare spark plug, oil and a metal petrol can - just in case!! Must get round to selling it.

I go Wild Camping, alone, remote places, Summer and Winter. Van is stored on a remote storage site with no access to 240v

Needed power for a couple of items and keeping Hab battery powered up.

Being in Wales, winter I put a wind generator ahead of solar but settled on;

On the storage site it is barely noticeable five vans away! So I can keep the Hab battery up to strength and really top it up before leaving for a trip.

If on site I use it sparingly and when as many as possible are off on day trips.

Thank you all. I think it'll probably be something we finally decide after we've owned this MH for the rest of the summer. We haven't even had one with solar power before so we'll see how we get on first. Very much appreciate your opinions.
The thing is, this is the first time having a MH with a garage and 1120kg payload. I just think I should fill it 😆😆 Dear Colin though is concerned that I'll actually do it too 🤭🤭

I would go for a Ecoflow Delta instead of a petrol gennie, quiet and recharges really fast.
I have had a Honda 2kw Genny for years and have rarely used it as don’t want to be annoying to others.
