Any recommendations please for a dashcam. Most we've looked at seem to have some terrible reviews so some views based on personal experience would be most useful. Also, hard wired or not?

Just bought a Nextbase 322GW ..

Hard wired,
I love the magnetic mount

Not the top line model but has everything I need .. and more
really happy with it

Bought direct from Nextbase

Do you have a windscreen with a redundant rear view mirror fitting?

I've got a Nextbase 412GW which I've had for a few years. If you want to see the video quality, have a look at one of my travel videos from the link in my Signature

yes no problem used my 322 GW in my last motorhome with pull across remis blinds and in my present van which has the later one piece pull up blind
This is our 312GW with the blinds closed. Guess yours was similar.

American but very informative. Most of the cams are available in the UK and the top one has £40 off on Amazon at the moment so less than £200

Many dashcams are commodity kit, they use the same sensors and the same chipsets to do the image processing. They have very similar performance. This includes Next Base.

I've got one of these but not impressed with the definition on the videos, number plates can't be read unless really close. I like the magnetic mount. Easy to move between car and motorhome

Can you close front remiss blinds with the click and go/pro mount in place
I've mounted mine at the bottom of the screen because the blinds wouldn't close with it at the top. It's fine as it's still higher than most cars

I have a Nextbase but is it any good? No idea, it just sits there behind my rear view camera monitor until I take it down for my Remis blind. The quality of picture which I checked when first bought was very good. Have not looked since.

Same as myself, had it for a good few years now. It's at the very top on the window in the middle so not in the way. In the cars I have a halo ultra 4k which i have found to be ok. This is permanently wired in so comes on when movement detected. It s shock detection is not perfect though as goes off regularly when driving which is annoying but has built in 64gb which is better as no sd card to worry about. Expensive though but then they all seem to be now.

If you haven't checked the picture on it for a while it may be worth doing.

My daughter's Nextbase was corrupting the video. Formatting the SD card sorted it.

Last thing you want is to suddenly need video evidence and then find it didn't record properly!

Usually on these there is a red dot that flashes when recording which I can see. If the sd card has an issue that normally flashes on screen that's normally yellow. Always worth checking though for sure.

Does a dashcam just record the exterior in case of an accident so no other purpose whatsoever?

Not at all.. I always try to use scenic routes, definitely no toll roads, so it's nice to look back on the videos and see anything that was missed.

I don't think any of them perform quite as well as you'd hope but I've got the Nextbase 622 with rear camera for my car and the 522 for the m/h which I wired in.Happy with both, hope you are with yours.

I use the Road Angel Pro dashcam, great picture front and back and worth every penny.

Only issues i have with Nextbase is the inbuilt batteries. Always displays battery low even when we have just done a run . Dates and times always need resetting. Sane in both the car and van.

Don’t forget they can be used for and against you. I had one but removed it. If you have an accident and the police see a dashcam they could determine fault from the footage.

After being subject to a no fault incident and all the time, stress & effort to sort it, Id rather have the protection from the footage.

We have Nextbase 622 on magnetic mount, hardwired in the car with rear screen camera. (Straightforward DIY fit). Definition great - very clear image of the face of the driver coming at me the wrong way down a one way street. And the look of horror on the faces of the folk in the car behind me!
Second mag mount fitted at the base of the screen to fit behind the remis blinds in the van, hardwired. (Even easier on the van, found a spare unused ignition controlled fuse). Camera easy to pop off one vehicle and into the other.
Both come on and off with the ignition.
Nextbase recommend regularly reformatting the SD card to prevent issues.

I appreciate that the spare unused ignition controlled fuse is in the fuse box. Would you know where?

Sorry, looking at my handbook, it may not actually be spare - (our handbook is in German) the one I’ve used is F31. Easy to reach and out of the way at the top left of the fuse board. I’ve used the next-base hardwire kit, mini fuse adapter supplied to tap into the fuse holder.
I’ve attached photos of the fuse board and dashcam . (Our van is LHD to avoid any confusion).
This fuse is ignition controlled so it goes on and off with the ignition.
