The UT210E is well thought of.

See this previous post from autorouter

Be careful choosing a DC clamp meter. I use a Uni-T UT210E. There are five models, A, B, C, D and E. The A, B and C models are AC only, they won't measure DC current, which is what your battery sends out. Only the D and E models measure DC. That's why they are a bit more expensive, they can measure both AC and DC current (amps).

The D model can measure high DC currents, but the E model can measure low and medium DC currents. The E model is better for finding small drain currents.

The UT201E is a good buy of features v cost and should do everything you are likely to want for DIY testing both for the motorhome and the house.

About 3 times the price I recently paid for one and same features Ali express

I see I can even get ostensibly similar ones at price points down to about £2. As I don't know the products I'm sticking with items that have been bought and reviewed by many people. I also quite like Amazon because I can return things without too much hassle.

Very happy with the one. I have reads very accurately down to .01 amp and as far as I've tested it to 175amp(rated 600a DC,has ncv and accurate temp sensors for returns only sent 1 item back..Ali used a Leicester warehouse and provided a P O pre paid label refunded 2 days after posting

Can you provide a link to the one you've described please?

Just check that the settings are correct before touching the probes to any live circuit and it should last for years. The current clamp makes the usual way to ruin meters with probes almost impossible.

Yes, I already have a DMM but I need something to trace broken live wires without sticking probes into them

So are you saying it won't show the live wire up to where it's broken? 🤔
No because the clamp measures electrical current flow so there won’t be any if the circuit is broken.

This appears to be a Sealey clone and 1/3rd the price but is designed for what you are looking for

Lidl have a Parkside branded Clamp Meter in store from 27th February, £12-99. No idea of the spec just saw it in the latest leaflet.

I think that's an A/C clamp only, best to check if you want it for motorhome use.

Yes, as ChrisL says it doesn't measure DC current (the type of current from the batteries), it only measures AC current (the type of current from a 240V mains plug)

Received my UT210E today, slightly narrower than others show should be me easier to handle in tight spaces.
Ordered at midnight on Tuesday from Amazon, delivered 12 noon today! 👍

Shame about the instructions as I have had to invest in a good magnifying glass! 😄
