Hi, As I don't have solar on my 1999 Hymer, can I plug my generator into the van? I have been told it is OK if my van has the right charger. Which would that be?

Can't see how the charger makes a difference.
So long as the generator is somewhat decent and produces a near pure sign wave and you dont overload it it'll be fine.
Make sure you check the sites you're visitings rules on them first.

As long as the generator has a good quality sine wave output it should be OK, just get a decent one like a Honda.

And of course don't run it within a mIle of any other campers. Even the quietest make an intrusive noise.

How can I tell if my generator produces pure sine wave?

If you are plugging in your generator to power the whole van then use an internal socket and a lipo compatible charger to battery and disable onboard charger if it is not compatible

If its Honda or similar it'll more than likely be OK.
Without an oscilloscope you're at the mercy of the trust of the brand really.

oldiesontour said a good indicator is an old fashioned fluorescent tube, they won't "start" on a modified sign wave and will flicker on a poor PSW.

I fitted a 100 amp charger only to push a lot into the 640ah lipo's from a suitcase generator quickly only takes it when know we'll be off grid and not moving for over a week ( never needed it yet)
