Where was your first journey

When you purchased your MH what was the first trip you went on and your memories of that first adventure? I'm picking up my MH next week and I'm thinking my first trip will be a short weekend break away to get a feel for the van and it's workings etc. I've never owned a MH before so it will be a very big learning curve but thankfully there are plenty of forums like this and YouTube videos for any potential troubleshooting and guidance. I'm based in the North West of England and not too far from Wales so that is looking like my first destination.

Painters Forstal. About 20 miles from home for a single night. Had to re-learn how to reverse a 6m van into a space after many years since being a delivery van driver! Plus all the things at handover that I had forgotten the minute I'd asked.

my first outing in my new to me van was down to the new forest from kent, was magical waking up to peace and quiet and just the ponies grazing nearby..

2 nights at a club site about 10 miles from the dealers. Few weeks later a rally and 3/4 weeks later of across the channel heading for Portugal, never did get there on that trip. Too much snow and rain and cold and meeting other motorhomers coming back because the weather was awful. Loved it.

Ours was Pembrey Country Park in Wales. We had to ask others for help filling our water tank etc. as we had completely forgotten everything the dealer told us. We had actually had the van for months but having a new puppy spurred us on into going.

When you purchased your MH what was the first trip you went on and your memories of that first adventure?

We picked ours up on 14th December 2014 and the next weekend, we travelled to France. It was all new to us, but the van was a 1994 Talbot based Compass Calypso. It was so simple to use, but people said we were mad!

It was cold and frosty, minimal heating and we used free Aires, so no electric. But it was a fantastic time, wandering around Northern France, finding the graves of my great uncles, killed in WW1.

It was a really good time and so glad we had done it. It gave us the confidence to strike out and we have done, three times a year ever since.

Our first trip in our VW was similar - a night in a CL attached to a local pub famed for its food. (The Plough at Stalisfield Green.) We drank too much, I hardly slept in the 135cm wide “double” bed and in the morning I had the worst hangover I’d had since my twenties.

I was on leave, It was 60+hrs ago in my Split Screen VeeDub and I went up the Eastside coast of Scotland, along the top (couldn't get to Cape Wrath until many years later) and down the Westside coastline.

Hardly saw another person at the topend, except in towns while getting supplies, in those 3+weeks and could park anywhere.(Spent nearly a week on the layby looking out to sea above Smoos cave)

We stopped off for the night in Hanwood Shrewsbury to visit an aunt and were then meant to head to Shrewsbury and........... the old Fiat immboliser problem reared its head and so we went home.............

I picked mine up from Peterborough
Overnight on the way home at Ross on Wye.

Then few sort local weekenders wild camping and Britstops then 3 weeks around Wales .no planning just a map

After completing the internal build of the van we travelled to my sisters in Bradford on Avon to test it out one weekend. After that went to Portugal.

It depends on how you define motorhome. Way back our first trip in our Fiat amigo campervan was to the new forest. The first trip in our "proper" motorhome was a week in Dorset

Not 100% sure but i think our first trip was in a rental van in about 2010/11 went in convoy with brother in his home made Tranny around Europe. 1st year i retired and got back to UK. Loved it but didn;t get the bug.

Straight down to Portsmouth in our Lh drive Starline 640 and on the ferry to Spain!
