Hi,
I have just taken delivery of a lithium battery, an orion xs-50 a victron 1600 inverter charger and a vanbitz battery saver. My question is, should I connect the B2B nearer to the lithium battery in the garage or close to the engine battery in the cab ? It's a Carthago E-line, so minimum 5m from cab to existing CBE electronics in the garage. The dealer supplied 7m of 25mm red cable and 2m of 25mm black. The inverter/charger came with 50mm cables.
Cheers
Mark

nearer to the leisure battery. The Vanbitz Battery master can also connect via the b2b cables.

Im just wondering if the long cable run will have a negligble effect on the top up current.

the designer and retired flogger :giggle: of the battery master will tell you eddie

Thank you, I bought the VanBitz battery master from OffGrid.

When we fit the BM to the DC-DC we’re going through substantial cables and solid connections so not really worried about voltage drop.

I fitted mine in the garage using 25mm² cable, the B2B will compensate for any volt drop but it won't t be a problem anyway with 25mm² cable.

Don't think that will be long enough I only just made it with 7m in my 6.65m Compactline

The Orion XS-50 B2B will take whatever it gets from the starter battery side, and convert it to an accurate voltage output for the leisure battery. So it's best to have any voltage drop in long cables on the starter battery side. And minimise the voltage drop on the leisure battery side as much as possible, with shorter, thicker wires.

I think another thing the XS-50 B2B can do is take in an accurate leisure battery voltage reading from a suitable device via Bluetooth or some other connection method, and use that reading to eliminate any residual voltage drop in the cables. For example, if you are fitting a SmartShunt or BMV battery monitor. Or even the less expensive SmartSense if you aren't fitting one of the previous two.

For the BatteryMaster, the voltage drop due to an amp or so of trickle-charge current along 25mm² cables will be extremely small, so it doesn't matter where that is fitted.
