or to those retired.... Happy normal day!

We’re off on our travels next Saturday for 2 weeks from the Hook of Holland.

When we have been before we just kinda ‘wing it’ but we have a later ferry at 5 pm this time. I’m a bit worried the traffic could be a nightmare so want to stop somewhere interesting to have a bike around close(ish) by.

We would also usually get the AcSi book out but it’s a blooming bank holiday and the sites aren’t back on discount till the Tuesday.

Can anyone suggest places we could stay? Perhaps aires/stellplatz perhaps heading towards Northern Germany.

Thanks in advance ;)

It's not far down to Delft, that's our usual route to find our feet. Delft's a lovely place anyway.

There's a very good ferry service from Hook of Holland to Harwich, which lands you near the jewel that is Clacton and its near neighbour Jaywick..

Etten-luer near Breda is a nice town with cycle routes. Check out camper stops for the yacht haven. About 50 mins from port.

Dordrecht is really nice. You can cycle into town from the camp site.

Thanks for that guys - keep them coming.

We actually wanted to go for longer but need to be back in the uk at the beginning of June.

I’ve found some of the ones mentioned on Camper Contact (y) if they’re campsites can you tell me how much and if you need to book.

Depending on how far you want to drive - a trip up the North sea coast to Den Helder and on to Texel (roll on-off ferry) would be good.

Stop off around Alkmaar on the way.

I'll second the idea of Delft being definitely worth a visit too - and it is great for cycling into and out of. We've not been for a while but is in a good location and an easy walk into Delft, also good for a train or tram the The Hauge and Scheveningen.

We were in Amsterdam a couple of weeks ago, our friends parked their MH at Camping Amsterdam Gaasper which is at the end of a Metro line and easy to get to from the ferry.

sdg.

Hi and thanks - that sounds interesting we always like to do something a bit different. What is Texel like never heard of it?

I think because it is bank holiday the AcSi sites will be full whack so C.C. will be the way to go I think.

Thanks again :Grin:getting excited now

We are getting the Harwich - Hook of Holland ferry again in August and spending 5 weeks travelling down as far as Bodensee (Lake Constance) in Germany.

SWMBO doesn't want to travel too far once we get off the ferry so I plan to stop on the aire at Schiedam, not far from the port. Near some very tall windmills and not far from town apparently.

Others have mentioned Delft, sounds good so we might give it a go.

Apart from the Camperstop app I recently bought the relevant All the Aires book from Vicarious Books, looks really useful.

The following link has been posted before but you might find it useful. Lots of videos, all in German alas.

Have a good trip.

Texel is the largest and first one of the Wadden islands stretching from the North of Holland around the Dutch/German coast up towards Denmark.
There are a number of Dunes and Wildlife reserves and we found it was possible to cycle for most of the time we were there.

We are doing the same on Friday 25th May , not sure how far we will be travelling or where to, we usually make it up as we go along, definately visiting Bavaria and the Black Forest area's, probably the Mosel river valley , all we are sure of is that we will be in Assen in North Holland before July 1st so we can watch the Moto GP meeting, (in the rain again probably) should be catching the ferry back on July 11th, but have achangeable return ticket.
