Our St Bernard is in a full harness and sits/lays between the driver and passenger seats when we are moving. Her harness is connected to one of the 2 spare seat belt buckles just behind the driver. On a night she has the lounge to move around in

Hi Mark & Kay

We have exactly the same motorhome 2018 but you haven't said if it's just the two of you - there's only Mrs W & myself.

We have removed the seating cushions from the side seat behind drivers and fixed a crate onto the base. I've used the wire leads from the base bolt of the drivers seat belt, threaded through the wire side of cage and drilled a hole in back of seat and fixed eyelet to attach other end of wire ( hole won't be seen with seat covers back in place - should we ever sell - no chance!!!)

Our labbie sleeps in here when travelling and at night but never has collar or her K9 harness as we've heard of dogs choking with collars get caught.

Will try to attach couple of photo's later

Good luck
That's most kind & a good suggestion. Yes that would be just Kay & I driving.

Hi, a new Pilote P740 owners with 2 spaniels. Wondering what tips people have for carrying the dogs whilst driving (crate or harness?) & where to settle them down at night in a crate or not? And where is best for you all?

Doesn't seem to be an ideal space from early inspection - what do you all do please?

Thks, Mark & Kay
get hold of the seat belt anchors which can be bolted to the front seats using an appropriate bolt using a lock-nutthen get a harness for reach dog and and from pet shop the means of attaching the harness to the anchor many of which have multiple designs for the seat belt anchor. you can use them in the back seat of your car, of course, for which they are designed.

Jacques has a harness when travelling and is on a lead attached to seat belt clip. He travels on the floor but does like to take the drivers seat occasionally, he just gets confused as to which way to sit. Night time he sleeps in the same place or in the garage which he can access from the habitation area

Taken from Gov.uk website, Highway Code page. Not sure about legislation abroad....

Rule 57

When in a vehicle make sure dogs or other animals are suitably restrained so they cannot distract you while you are driving or injure you, or themselves, if you stop quickly. A seat belt harness, pet carrier, dog cage or dog guard are ways of restraining animals in cars.

In the van (PVC) Ronnie our terrier has his harness clipped to a stretchy lead which clips around the head rest of the seat between myself and wife. It's short enough so he can't distract me when driving and he can stand up to admire the view, curl up, or stand on the wife's lap. When parked up he is free to roam in the van during the day, but sleeps under our fixed bed in his own bedroom. I even moved the heating vent to give him a bit of warmth when it's cold, as it has been recently 😁

Our 2 Cavachons have a harnesses attached to a seat belt clip that we had fitted to the floor underneath the sofa in the storage area. We thread that up the back of the sofa and attach them both. They sit/lay together for the journey and whoever is in the passenger seat can watch them also. We took regular breaks on our trip to Spain. We also took a cage but haven’t used it.
