Very new to motor homing and thought it would be exciting to have a holiday this weekend 28-31 July, can anyone recommend places to stay as all the campsites are fully booked!
ps we are moving our youngest into his new house at Guisborough, is there anywhere in or near Guisborough?
Please help!!!

Be aware, that Whitby very recently stopped people staying overnight in motorhomes in their car parks. (Or at least that's what I read)
On that basis, if correct, (and somebody will be along soon with a few more facts) I would be tempted to pop elsewhere if you cant get into a campsite

Good luck

If you are a member of the Camping & Caravanning Club then there are three Temporary Holiday Sites in Whitby which include this weekend.

Beat me to it... I think there is something on at York as well (y)
We may try there after the 3 F's rally..

@Newby52 you maybe need to join a couple of clubs, even here on FUN.. (y) as a start. £15 a year.
Then look into rallies and using smaller CL sites... Motorhoming is not all Campsites.. We hardly ever use a site, have 2 grandkids with us most of the time so have to keep them occupied.

Yes. The THS at York Cricket & RUFC is on until the 28th August (I had parameter set to a limit of 20 miles from Guisborough).
We stayed there a few years ago and keep meaning to go back. Nice walk into the city along the river or buses.

We have also stayed at Caedmon College & Broadings Farm THSs in Whitby in previous years and found it easy enough to get into and out of the town by walking/public transport.

sorry pressed the wrong button
well it must have been very soon after we were there, as i said it was nothing special then and we only had a drink in the bar.
shame though its in a good place , lake over the road if i remember right and a bus stop right outside.
The lake is Scaling Dam reservoir - which reminds me there is a MCC CL there now. Probably booked up for this weekend though.

The Rugby Club THS at York is, and has been full since the start of the school holidays.
Had a cousin and wife trying to get in last week.
It may be worth turning up, but I wouldn't be too hopeful.

Sorry to have to correct you there are spaces available that is unless they’ve booked in advance for the empty spaces. You could contact stewards to clarify. Just to also add that due to the dry weather there is more space than you find when weather is a bit more wet.

Don't be sorry.
I'm just saying what happened last weekend to them.
They did get in the next day but had to ring in advance to be sure of availability.
As people move from place to place I'm sure spaces become available.
It was meant as advice for @Newby52 and nothing else.

Are you on the site at the moment as your info will be more up to date and more useful to @Newby52 ?

Lol
Yes on site but be warned York could have heavy thunder showers tomorrow and possible flooding but I don’t think it’s likely to cause anyone to move. Mind you the sky is dull and thunder can be heard right now.

We were there last year, and even if there is a heavy thunder storm I doubt the river level would rise that much in one hit.
But you never can tell. ;)

We drove past the grapes earlier this year and it looked closed down.
We’ve stopped at the Jolly Sailor a few miles away on the same road. Nice food and beer and always seemed welcoming:)

shame about this grapes pub as it is a good place with a lake to walk round and a bus stop to whitby but actually when we were there a couple of years ago it didnt look like a place you would be eating out of choice , we didnt as we had loads of fish n chips in whitby but we did go in for a drink and the people in there were very friendly and wernt bothered weather we ate or not.
