Wheel trim warning

Incidentally, those who use cable ties, do you do two per wheel or just one? If the trim comes off and is held by one tie, won’t it shake loose as you drive?
I put 2 on diagonally . If you only put one and the trim comes off you will destroy it.

You can get silver ties so you will hardly notice them

2. 1 will destroy the bodywork before it breaks

The van Is four years old and have stayed on without ties then they were removed and after being replaced one came off. I agree that it shouldn’t happen with properly fitted trims.

As the trims have never needed ties Brian perhaps correctly fitted it might have stayed on? ☹️
The Fiat trims are realnpain doesn't matter how careful you are with them the plastic standups/clips that clip them in ifte get caught and get bent and don't clip in properly.
Lost count of the number of times I've got the heat gun out to straighten them.

I am struggling to think of when I last had wheels trims,it must be 8 or 9 vehicles ago
Standard unless you oder stupidly expensive alloys.
Had alloys on our first Motorhome always have steels now.

Done! Two ties per wheel. Unfortunately, only have black cable-ties with me but will replace with silver ones when back in UK.

Every vehicle I have ordered that include the ones in my op have come with alloy wheels as standard, they keep going round so must be as good as steel;);)

I am sure if I had parted with a shed load of cash for a job of this type, specifically to do with wheels and suspension and got that response from the suppliers. I would be speaking personally to the MD / owner about their attitude and poor response and the damage that can do to their reputation.
It is clearly the job of their final check over to make sure everything they have worked on is correctly fitted and secured.

By their response you are responsible for check all the work they have carried out and that is clearly nonsense.

Got to say I think that is an extremely poor response from SAP after spending a not inconsiderable amount of money on their ‘professional' services. I would be gutted too.

After 5 years of owning the van we noticed in June this year that we had lost one wheel trim. I’d often thought I should cable-tie them as they never seemed to fit that well all round the tyre.
I tried unsuccessfully to locate just one trim/hubcap so in the end bought a set of 4 plastic trims that, when fitted, look smarter than the originals. And all for £19 delivered.
They fit better than the originals too though not perfectly. So, this afternoon, I’m out with the cable-ties.View attachment 655893

Sorry for the delay. Been preparing the van all day for a month’s touring around France. Here’s the link to the items I bought. By the way, they arrived in two days!
The little Griffin/Lions whatever in the centre were ordered separately for about £2 and are stickers.

Thank you, like everything gone up in price and out of stock. But useful to know that you can just put peugeot stickers on. Will pass on to to pitch neighbours Nutrocker Pat

So when you get a service done are you meant to drain the oil to check if they changed it.
Many moons ago we bought a Vauxhall Belmont. It was our first ever new car. The water pump failed in the first few months. They took it in to change it and sent it back to use minus cooling water! The engine block got so hot the engine wouldn’t stop - the diesel fuel was self igniting.

Needed a new engine….

So yes, I check every time now - even though I shouldn’t beeping well need to!

I hate the ghastly things. One fell off, so I threw away the other three......

I have steel wheels, look ok with a rub down and spray of silver, they came with just centre caps which fit behind the wheel nuts, never going to come off and the steel wheels are much more robust than alloys. And cheaper.

I saw a matching hub cap at the side of the road and carried it around in the boot of my car, along with all my tools and all sorts of other crap for about 18 months. In France this June we had a puncture and lost the wheel trim somewhere along the way, the one in the boot is exactly the same and has a similar amount of, shall we say “fatigue”. The one I found had obviously come off someone else’s MoHo, I hope the one I lost ends up on another MoHo…. All my wheel trim/hubcaps are secured with release-able zip ties, available from Screwfix and other retailers. I got 2 new rear tyres fitted and my guy in the garage insisted on using zip ties to secure the hubcaps. Enough said!!

Cheers!

Russ

Thanks Paul (y) best check your wheel bolts while you are on then;)
Ha !! The DVSA/VOSA examiner that did my recent test, said that he wants the wheel trims OFF next time ,so he can tap with his little hammer ,all the wheel bolts !! (Hee Hee ," Wheeltappers & Shunters "

I have a locking wheel nut on each wheel which need to be taken off before the wheel trim can come off.
Keeping my van in storage, I wouldn’t want to turn up with a view to setting off somewhere to find it on bricks. Replacing the tyre alone is enough to warrant the cost of the locking nuts.
As for putting the blame on you, my response would be do I need to take the wheel off after my garage has fit new brakes to ensure they are there? - it’s a pretty poor remark from them.
Have you had air suspension or levelling fit? If so, that’s even worse due to the cost spent.

Ah that takes me back.... mid 70's middle of night on train from Plymouth to Glasgow.. stopped in Carlisle and woken by the tap, tap, tap of the guy doing his "wheel Tappers" routine along the length of the train.... happy days.

I have steel wheels but bolt on stainless wheel trims. They look smart

I had self levellers fitted by SAP, I'm very surprised by their response.
On the positive side, this thread has just given me an idea. I'll put cable ties on my alloy wheels and it will fool any would be alloy wheel thieves into thinking I've got wheel trims ;) (y)
