Hi all,

Just wondering what the consensus was on how to best sell a Motorhome privately these days? We've ordered a new van after cancelling our Carthago order (another story) and we're picking it up in March. This means we need to sell our existing Swift Escape 2019 MH. Selling part exchange to the dealer is an option but I'd rather not.

I can see there's a classifieds section on this site but how much traction does it get?

Has any others got good experiences selling privately?

I think the first thing is to get an idea of it's value you can look at classified ads but selling privately it's not reasonable to expect to get what someone will pay a dealer as they will have no comeback or warranty.
I'd then get motorhome depot ( a broker) to give a valuation.
Then it's up to you having the information to decide. In our case we asked on a private advert for a price similar to what MH depot were going to ask ( as we thought if we sold it ourselves we could save their fee) we were contacted by a dealer who came very close to what we thought we could acheive with no hassle to us and they dealt with it very professionally he's on here Simon select.

Selling a van is a lot of hassle that I can do without so we use Motorhome Depot and let them take care of it.

That's great thanks. Don't worry I know we won't get dealer prices. We only bought it a year ago and it's already depreciated as you'd expect.

I've asked for a quote from Motorhome Depot. Paid £63k last year for it from a dealer. It's gone down a bit since then so I'm under no illusions!

Swift Escape 674, 5 belts (6 berth), U-shaped lounge, automatic, 20k miles. 19 Plate. 12 months MOT. So it will be a good van for somebody.

It does not cost anything to place an add in the classifieds on the forum it’s worth a punt and you may sell it without hassle😊👍

I tend to sell my performance cars on a sale or return basis via a dealer, I have the vehicle serviced and make sure anything that needs doing is done and that includes the starter battery new tyres, valeted etc. This makes the vehicle in prime sales condition then sale or return is around £3k I sold a performance car last October like this and no reason a MoHo dealer wouldnt do this for a similar cost.

The dealer then checks out the client and sorts out the tyre kickers

Zoshee, we sold two motorhomes through Autotrader Motorhomes. Yes, there is a small cost, but we got a great response and sold both vehicles quickly (within 48 hours) and for full asking price. Wouldn't now go elsewhere if selling.

Thanks I've contacted both Motorhome Depot and Simon Select now. See what happens with these first.

I've sold cars on Autotrader years ago and had loads of time wasters.
