Towmaster A Frame System from LNB at Bristol paired with a Fiat 500 - works for us

Hi Folks sorry I have not replied earlier but SHMBO has been making sure that some of the diy jobs I started have been finished due to return to work on monday. Thanks for so many suggestions, to answer the question of what MH we have is an Autotrail Tracker EKS 2011 our max towing weight is 1200kg, the caratow A frame max towing weight is 1000kg as is stamped on the frame. we have to buy a tow bar for MH and also need to uprate the gross weight as there is very little pay load available at 3500kg. I have a feeling that the piggy bank is going to take a bit of a hammering.;):unsure::unsure:

"****" off a shovel Come to mind.! (y). Like the Rover V8, in a Moggie Minor?. Then there was the bloke, who shoehorned a "Merlin" into a RR Corniche?.

I have a friend in Scotland that has an LS1 (corvette) in a moggy,

We need a 5 door as a toad and previously had a vauxhall agila which was huge inside but basic. Brenda has a daihatsu sirion that she was gifted from a family member at a year old, so had a car-a-tow bar fitted to that. It is superb as a tow car and as a runaround at home. Pointless to have a tow car you can't otherwise use

Yes if it’s only ever used as a toad it makes it rather expensive. Our i10 is used for everything it’s our only car. Makes it more justified.

It would be our only car as any long traveling these days are with the MH. we intended to have 2 week break in Scotland at the end of May but that seems doubtful now.:(

I plan to use our Autocruise Starblazer XL 3.0L 4005kg, Armitage tow bar at 2500kg with a Towtal A frame and toad is a Citroen DS3.

I'm considering a toad for the future and wondering if electric can be towed?
NO.
I have a diesel Smart and it is fine, EXCEPT it has not got power steering, which means if I pull away sharply on a bend or lock,
the van overhang gives it a bad case of lock to lock, until I stop and start off again, a steering damper is needed, it will be the same probably for all non power-steer cars.

My Diesel Smart without power steering was just the same. That and the pesky false neutral contributed to me changing it for a VW Up.

We have a Citroen C3 Flair on an A frame. Weight is 950kg. Chosen because needed to take mobility scooter in boot at destinations. Travels in motorhome enroute.
Towing limit on Armitage towbar is 1050kg so perfect behind our 3ltr Autotrail Cheyenne 740SE.

The SEAT Mii and Škoda Citigo are rebadged versions of the Up

There are savings to be had avoiding paying for a name in addition to the car ??

If money wasn’t an issue, I could fancy a soft top morris minor to ride around the dordogne. A firm called Charles ware sell them original or with modern additions like brakes ! Haha

The Citigo has proved to be a great choice ? Now tend to use it as a daily drive. Towing with the Unibrake system makes it a perfect setup for me ?

5 door Hyundai i10 1.2L is our toad. Tows lovely and under a ton with the towbars 2 twocars A-frame. (y)
This is our toad too. We have 3 small grandchildren who often come camping with us in the motorhome and the i10 gives us 5 doors and 5 seats with seat belts. Also the car is good fun to drive (a bit like a go cart compared to my Honda crv) and makes a great second car.

If I was to get really picky, I would like a slightly bigger fuel tank but we do use it for longer runs then most people would. Also found the headlights not that bright on unlit A roads or dark motorways, we had better bulbs fitted and the alignment checked but it was ok anyway. Better now with the new bulbs, but like I said we do use it for longer runs then most.

Normally i'd agree with you, but.
We were in a skoda delear to look at 3 yr old cars , and priced up a new citigowhile while we
Were there, just wandered up the rd to the vw place and like a supermarket, clearance offers , more than 2k cheaper than the skoda, any colour you want (white or red). So forget the 30kmile ctigo we "went home " with a new Up. With a bit of luck our last car.

5 Door Seat Mi

Towed a 2007 Smart 4/2 for many years behind my Autocruise Sunningdale ,up & down through France to the South when we lived in Menton. TILL they stopped all that !! It was on a "Car a Tow " A frame from Poole in Dorset. They said i could do the fitting to the Smart ,which i did in 4 1/2 hours.NO problems with that years model for towing ,NO mileage add up either !! And YES ,you can reverse whilst coupled up,,a pair of 'bungee'/expanders across the steering spokes ,hooked to the seat frame ,and you CAN reverse left, right or straight just the same as a caravan/boat trailer etc etc .Been there done that !!

Can someone please persuade Mrs E to let me turn her DS3 into a toad?
She reckons that it'll be no use to give driving lessons in if I have it done.
And I can't get my car done because it's A Merc 7g auto.

I’m having my wife’s DS3 done Monday don’t effect driving lessons itself may effect insurance with the modification.

I know that, but I can't convince her.
Her argument is that the car is her livelihood.

Never had an issue with the Smart, until we too got a False neutral and Wrecked the Gearbox and Engine!. We are not allowed to Toad SWMBO`s Cars (Lease Rental and Auto). I tend to purchase "Cheap" S-H cars, and have had 4 in a row Fiat Punto`s!. which allows a swop of the Rig each time.

We have a manual gearbox 4 door Vauxhall Aquila on a Tow Bars 2 Tow Cars frame, which I have fitted a Jockey Wheel to so I can hook it up easily on my own, which we tow behind our Swift Bolero. With a Trailer Vision Omni Vue camera system, with the rear camera fitted on an extended height bracket so we can see over the top of the Aquila, which makes overtaking & tucking back in afterwards, much easier & safer. The Tow Bars 2 Tow Cars system is really good as the electronics ensure that the ‘Toad’ brakes proportionally, when ever the Motorhome brakes, so we do not suffer with the ‘bump & go’ motion that you get with mechanical braking systems, and the A frame is much lighter. The people at Tow Bars 2 Tow Cars are very friendly and helpful - highly recommended! the Aquila is very practicle with 4 doors and for me the really good news is that I can (just) get my 2,500 Watt Electro Voice PA system, mixer desk, microphones and cables in it! The other good thing is that it makes negligible difference to the Motorhome’s fuel consumption when on tow and I am only really conscious that it is behind me when I overtake or need to reverse. In short I love it!

We've been tugging an IQ for the last four years. The poor little thing hasn't been used since last October due to the lock down. We've never had a problem but we were thinking of swapping it for an MP3 Scooter & transverse trailer this year as we no longer need three seats. Then all things went CV19 Crazy so I doubt we'll change this year.
