Hi all,

Got the van stuck in the mud (first time owned since new) went to connect the long towing eye (this is a Burstner Iexo A class)
only to find the hole for the eye was not lined up with the hole in the front bumper. Unfortunately the thread appears to be fouled somehow. When we bought this (brand new van) it had had some repair work done to the front, weather this is connected who knows. So the next problem does anyone know what the thread is for this eye as I now need to clean the female thread.

I think it may also be a reverse thread. Many tow eyes are.
O.P. can check that with their own tow eye, but agree, that looks a rough old hole.I don't think I'd like to put to much strain on that!!.
Mike.

I had to open up the hole to try and get the I in, the van was so far down in the mud I could not get at the wishbone, it was parked in our cottage garden same place as I have parked it for the last four years

I have not physically checked ours but looks like a right hand thread to me from this photo from Coastal Motorhomes:

Ive not come across any RH thread in many years doing recovery
Never recovered a Ducato then, just double checked mine and as I said it's a right hand thread.

Definitely a right hand thread first time I had to use ours I could only get about one and a half turns on the thread had to clean the rust and gunge out before I could use it.

I would advise anyone to put some grease in the threads if possible as soon as they buy the van.

I had my A-class pulled out of the mud earlier this year. The hole though that bumper definitely wasn't centred. It did just about line up, but the towing eye was touching the plastic. I was concerned that the stress would damage the bumper, but I was fine. I've got grip boards now... Not that it would have helped that time.

I carry a set of 16mm taps for cleaning the threads, also both standard and extended eyes, all available at rallies we attend should they be needed. (y)
