Finally getting round to removing the Vision Plus aerial. Have never used and planned to remove it and use the hole for fitting a wifi aerial and router. Have now decided that we manage well enough with the signal on our iphones and tethering to Firestick for TV viewing.
Removing the aerial pole will also free up some space in the wardrobe within which the Vision plus amplifier and pole are situated. We will keep power supply for the Vision Plus in case we change our minds about the wifi aerial. But the pole, a nuisance, will go.
I have a Vision Plus plastic blanking plate that is large enough to cover the hole and surrounds when the aerial and pole are removed. I’m anxious to avoid the hole leaking. I intend to remove all parts of the aerial on the roof, carefully scrape off the dried sealant etc and finally clean the whole area with white spirit or isopropyl alcohol.
Then I’m unsure of the best sealant to use to fix in place and water-proof the blanking plate. Also, the blanking plate has screw holes and I’m wondering whether I should screw the blanking plate in place (if the screws fit the old holes) or just fix the plate with adhesive/sealant and no screws. If new holes are required, I’d rather not screw the plate down. But if the existing holes work then it might be prudent to screw the blanking plate down and then seal everything.
Can I just use simple old sealant from B&Q (other stores are available) or is there a particular sealant/adhesive O should use.
Any other tips or suggestions most welcome. I realise I am an old fart and the job is a simple one for most of you but advice and reassurance always a comfort.
