Went for a ride today to get some miles on the bike & get the first service out the way, on the way back I'm going through Crediton heading towards Copplestone I pass a young biker beside his Kawasaki just getting his gear on,he gives me a friendly nod within seconds he's right behind me, there's 3 car's in front of me the third one is indicating right, but young buck think's he'd show this old tosser how it's done so blast's past me & the next 2 cars to the realise the 3rd car is starting to turn right, thinks he can brake & dive between the back of that car & the next one back & still get it turned to go up the road:whistle: No you cant young buck! Big Bang & he hits the back of the car turning right the back of the bike come's up & send the rider over the bar's & he lands on the pavement, he gets up briefly clutching his ball's then crumples to the ground. This all in a 30 zone. With the car park incident the other day I wonder if I should stay home from now on:)

Ohope Bay of Plenty NZ early to mid 80s

Driving home following my neighbour. M/Bike coming the other way, Riders arm catches the second cars mirror r in front, he is catapulted diagonally into my neighbours windscreen, one hell of a thump and he lands on the verge, leaving his leg impaled thro my neighbours w/screen.

Good part of the story, he was surfing, catching waves, 6 weeks later, YES! 6 weeks later! He went on to represent NZ in some sort of Para Olympics can't remember how he got on tho

You wouldn't by any chance know anyone with the Lawson surname around the Bay Of Plenty?
Have an uncle Cyril and loads of cousins that have lived around that area since the seventies.

Not a name I recognize, but then B o P is a large area, from Hicks Bay and Te Araroa on the East Cape to Coromandel on the Coromandel Peninsula. Our Coffee Bar/ Restaurant was in Kopeopeo just outside Whakatane and we had a house in Port Ohope .

Sundays always used to be the worst day for the bike accidents.

Strange had exactly the same happen to me last week except it was a car waiting to turn left but the road was blocked . Now I'm not exactly the slowest rider but know when to pass and when to wait after 40 plus years riding. Luckily the kid wasn't hurt either just shook up he went over the roof and landed in the road in front of the car. That was in a 30 mph as well.
They walk amongst us

Its why i stopped riding on the road, there is always some bellend who wants to try harder than their talent is able, and some innocent road user gets caught up in it, and we all get a bad name.

I dislike riding in groups, arrange to meet folk somewhere by all means , but group rides always get daft.

Traveling with race van & trailer always seems to bring out the "heroes" could be spelt differently!!

Good point... but there is a prize for that , paddock position. I remember outbraking someone up the slip road for Snetterton once and getting the last garage.

How could he have possibly known you were an old tosser.:)

Saturday afternoon heading off to a gig with (fortunately) a different band than usual, when our fiddle player comes the other way out from home on blues & twos. He's a local GP, but also a pre-hospital trauma specialist on call for emergency response. Flies with the air ambulance too. Top bloke.

Casualty was the first one of this year's season - biker on the way home from Cadwell Park. He won't be the last. Not too badly hurt apparently - although Si's definition of not too badly hurt & mine may not be quite the same - he's scraped too many up to be very bothered about a few bones sticking in unusual directions.

Joking aside you can tell, maybe not age but experienced bikers, they ride closer to the white line, not all throttle & brake, keep a better average speed through turns, use line of sight (extended vision as it was called) loads of thing's you notice. As for the old tosser bit its on the back of me jacket

I'm sure like car driving, experience shows through. My comment was just reflecting what I noticed while having breakfast at Sizewell beach café recently. Half a dozen big black expensive bikes turned up making a hell of a din:) The riders looked like young macho storm troopers on heat...a revving and laughing they were all enjoying the looks they were getting from the other revelers..(y). It wasn't until they started to remove some of the layers of padding and their helmets that it became obvious they were all OAPs:LOL: They were one of us;)

You're spot on.
Started riding at 13 now 63 and always ridden so 50 years including 15 racing and 5 as a part time instructor.
Recently got invited to join a local group of IAM / ROSPA riders who ride out at least once every week for 150/200 miles regardless of weather.
These guys are amazing at 63 I'm the puppy in the group as most are well into their 70s. They're great company, loads of banter plenty of p##s taking and all passionate about bikes and all decent riders.
Guess what we call ourselves.
