They are probably for turning off the heating system (Truma or Alde) in the bedroom area. Unlike us softies many Germans like to sleep in cold bedrooms. That could explain many things about them.

Ejector seat switch? Why not take the weight off you feet and sit down whilst flicking it to see if you get a free 'flight'!

The grating on the right is your heating.
The thumbscrew is to turn it off/on
The current position looks like 'off'

(It takes a while before you can feel heat coming out, really it's designed for full winter camping to keep you cozy in bed. I'm happy to have the heat, my wife hates it and would love your 'off' button!)
