Hi all, does any have an idea what the cut off red and black wires were for, looked like they would carry quite a current, only had it a few weeks, everything works, it’s not got solar and no evidence of ever having it, from the photo they go under or behind the bathroom ? It’s a 2018 hymer exsis did they wire them ready for solar ?

Congratulations on getting the van
Sorry to put a dampener on your excitement but i should leave them alone until you know more!
Mike

Looks like the solar controller was wired to the EBL and has probably been rewired dired to the battery.

Edit:
Just noticed you said it never had solar, Hymer use red & black for the solar normally left under the floor near the battery.
If its never had solar you will probably find the other end of them up near the roof behind one of the side lockers.

Oh dear! You should never cut the red wire😂. Let us know when it blows up 😂😂😂

I did Eeny, meeny, miny, moe, on the red and black, I cut the black first, only after throwing the PE on the other end over the neighbours garden wall 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I can not see from the photos. What type are the two batteries? They look different, or is that just the photo?

Those two wires look the same size as the red and Black wires used to connect my new dealer fitted solar panel to the regulator.

Has the van had a B2B added at some point?

The black zip ties do not look like Hymer, so something might have been changed. What is the blue box next to the EBL?

In fact, the whole wiring loom looks different to mine, On mine, I can see the fuses which are hidden behind your wiring loom. But that could Hymer just changing things. My last Hymer had the EBL under the seat and the whole battery compartment was empty (partitioned off and handy for external storage of toilet things) . The output of my new solar regulator is connected to block 6 of the EBL. Your block 6 is empty.

The wiring looks typical Hymer to me, the blue box looks like an LS1218 auxiliary mains charger, Hymer fit them if you have a factory fitted 2nd battery.

I agree they are likely to be original fit for solar. Hymer wires ( mine is 2006) have info printed on the wire to help identify them and I expect they still do as working out what's going on when doing fist fix can't be easy .

The two batteries were energy bull lead acid, I’ve replaced them with 2 x exide ES 900’s on Martin at a and n’s advice also I’ve sent the EBL to him along with the blue box next to it the LAS 1218 bus for check / repair as the 240 tel-tale light doesn’t appear on the Hab pane, hopefully as others have pointed out it’s hymers pre-wired solar wires, as I’d like a panel at some point

They are GEL batteries. Hymer normally fit AGM.

Nothing wrong with that, but check that you have the correct setting on the EBL (Switch on far right behind green wire.)

Presumably, the auxilliary charger has a GEL setting as well.

Yes I think the original ones were AGM but the dealer swapped them for lead acid just before I picked it up, I presume they were shot, the las 1218 is compatible with every battery type inc lead but not the ebl30 only AGM or GEL. A&N caravans has both in for repair at the moment and he suggested I replace the batteries with GEL as he’s not a fan of AGM and I don’t need AGM as I have a lead acid vehicle battery, I only noticed the cut off wires when I removed the ebl30 unit to send away for repair
Hopefully as others have said hymer pre installed them for solar which I hope to fit at some point when I get my head round how it’s done 😁

Is it OK for me to pick your brains? :sneaky:

When removing the EBL, where did you disconnect the mains power lead?

I would like to put a switch in the lead but can't see where. (On my previous Hymer, the EBL 29 was connected with a kettle lead, which I used to unplug, leaving all of the sockets and fridge still live.)

That’ll not take long 🤣

A&N sent detailed instructions on removing and refitting, I also took lots of pics. The white group of plugins next to the las 1218 has 2 black plugs connected las 1218 front and Ebl 30 at the back
Hope this helps

Connects via a Wago plug normally behind the EBL.

Dicky beat me.

Thank You Both.

It is a pity Hymer keep changing things. My EBL black power lead seems to disappear under the washroom. :(

Perhaps the Wago connectors are only factory fitted if you have the auxilliary charger.

All the mains wiring in Hymers is linked with Wago connectors, you will find quite a few of them in the double floor and behind kitchen draws etc.
In my current one when I was wiring my auto switchover for the inverter the EBL was plugged in just behind the EBL and from there the cable went to a block of 4 Wago connectors behind a kitchen draw and I was able to split it off, also the fridge was connected with Wago connectors in the double floor under the fridge.

That doesn’t sound good ! How would you remove the EBL to send away for repair ? I’d if possible strip the insulation off and cut one wire at a time and fit a 3 pin connector

Haven't changed them for years mine has the Wago connector and it's 2017. it will only be a short lead coming out of the EBL there is probably a connection block you have missed, mine is right behind the EBL accessible via a floor hatch.
