Hi just wondered what people are paying for insurance and who with and what are the requirements
I’ve got full no claims
Late 50s
New Motorhome £93000
Waiting for a quote to come back with normal insurance
Are people forced to have trackers with that value as from what I keep reading they aren’t great as they get ripped off straight after they get stolen
I’d rather fit a ghost
Thanks

We had to have alarm and tracker fitted and also lock the drive gates

A requirement of my insurance policy is that a tracker is fitted to the vehicle. This year's renewal price is £50 more than last year although there are no changes. I have tried various search engines and brokers but no one can match my existing insurers.

Hi
NFU Mutual I’m with they don’t ask for tracker ,
But you need mobiliser and alarm factory fitted,
Cover was good for A class mh ie windscreen/ eu cover ,
But if yours is over 3.5 ton motor home you don’t get any breakdowns cover included ,so I had to get breakdown separately so went with
Lv BRITANNIA RESCUE / INSURANCE ALL IN £480 but I didn’t have good ncd as I I’ve always been a name driver on my wife policy.
Not been motorhoming long ,
But some of the guys on here seem have some good deals . Just got to ring round etc .
Good luck it’s a mine field just make sure you get good windscreen cover as a new screen can cost £3000-5000 for a class

Whoever we are with it was about 400 including european breakdown and legal and 8000 miles but as it is worth over 50 a proper alarm and tracker were required

My insurance results are here.

Went with LV in the end as you’ll see.

We are with Safeguard and yes we have a tracker...my policy has reduced by approx £100 for each of the last two years of being with them.. it gives good EU cover and crucially good windscreen cover too as in that time I have already had to have 2 replacement screens fitted and they are mega expensive.

Comfort for us , unlimited mileage ,unlimited windscreen and full European breakdown £630 (this after having a windscreen replacement last year in our first year as motorhomers)👍

2gether insurance

£240

Could be because we live in the Isle of Man though

We are full-timers and paid an £2474 last year. We only had 2 choices of insurance companies/brokers to use owing to cost and size of van, Comfort and Adrian Flux (tried NFU and others but sadly they were not interested in quoting). Comfort came out the cheapest (if you can call it cheap)

I have just been through the [ainful and drawn-out process of getting quotes and ended up with my current insurer C&MC. Their renewal wasn't the cheapest but the clincher was when I had got all my quotes (like for like - which is difficult!) I went back to them with the cheapest quote and they reviewed their quote and came back with a 10% discount so I stayed with them.
My advice to anyone starting to get serious comparative quotes is to set up a spreadsheet or chart with your check list and keep a good record of all the quotes you get.
My chart included :- insurer (look for AXA, LV or a well known firm with a good TrustPilot rating), amount of excess to make sure they are as near the same as possible to give that level playing field, admin fee for in-year changes (ranged from £23 to £55), does it allow you to drive other vehicles (many do not and this is important to me), amount of cover for contents, etc., cost of protecting your NCB (surprising the differences!), additional cost of UK/EU breakdown cover (is it with a reputable firm such as RAC/AA and is it specific to the moho or does it cover your daily driver as well?).
In addition to the usual comparison sites, I got quotes from Comfort, Safeguard, AIB (very good quote as they give 15% Fun discount but didn't cover me to drive other vehicles third party), Caravan Guard, and Performance Direct.
I am probably telling my grandmother how to suck eggs but hopefully that may be useful to someone ;-)

I went on compare the market this year and went through insured. The underwriter is areas. Value £35 k 6k miles a year £190 fully comp incl legal protection and protected NCB. I think you're almost certain to have to have a tracker and alarm with the value of your new MH.
I did go for a £500 voluntary excess apart from windscreen claims I'd never claim on anything less than a few thousand anyway because of it upping the premiums.

whilst on this subject give some consideration if you travel abroad to adding your partner as a named driver... at first I was going to add my wife as it seemed a good idea...but she has never driven our van, I'm sure she could in an emergency but if i was to break a leg or something whilst in the Algarve or similar she would then have to drive the van all the way back to the UK, which I don't think she would do ... with her removed from the policy then the van could be repatriated under the Insurance.

We insure with Saga, the premium actually dropped about £60 this year for some unknown reason even though the policy stayed the same. We had an accident over Christmas and having a bit of a time getting it sorted, problem is we only have 2 or 3 commercial repair centres and 1 can't do anything till June. Saga are a pain to contact and they are not taking any new business so we've been told. All customer reps are working from home ???

Comfort (Aviva) after trying Axa via Lifesure, Highway via Adrian Flux, Highway via LV, C&MC, and Caravanguard. Comfort had the best combination of cover and price, and the price was best of all of them.

Caravan guard quoted me £303, Fully Comp , breakdown, legal etc (2nd yr with Motorhome).-Coaacbuilt- Low profile Burstner, ‘09 plate with 60k on clock. Has Cobra alarm, steering lock but no tracker.

Would'nt you think that from an insurers point of view that would it would be cheaper for them to have two named drivers rather than having to send someone to re-patriate the van ?

They're in business to make money not to think.

I withdrew my wife from the policy at age 70 otherwise she too would need a medical. Insurance went up, presumably to cover the risk of repatriating the van.

I’ve been insuring through Caravan and Motorhome Club for some while, this year I took my wife off the insurance as she isn’t renewing C1D1 on her licence this year, that put up my insurance £70 more than this year’s quote. The attitude was you’ve lost your spouse discount bad luck. I’m now with Highway and paying about what I was quoted to renew, clearly loyalty does not pay 😩

Yes, ditto for us as well, whoo hoo, bungy jumping, zip lining, canyoning, now all on the to do list :giggle:
Mike.

I was going to remove OH from my moho policy but the premium would have shot up by an incredible amount, so I've left her on it ftb.

fire due to a gas fault etc.
Since when did they differentiate types of fire?
why would a car policy not pay out when I knock over the gas burner I am cooking my sausages on? that is what insurance is for .

With Comfort this year. We paid £347 for the year for the insurance & legal stuff on a 21 plate Burstner travel van. They were the cheapest for us by about £50
2 years NCB, 8000 miles PA, only requirement was an approved alarm

Well had one quote with caravan guard
£472
Got to have a tracker
Gold secure wheel clamp
Gold secure steering wheel lock
Told them I was going to fit a ghost so was very surprised by the last two
