Deffo a Goldfinch.... put out a special niger seed feeder with lots of perches and you will get loads of them.
We have a feeder with 20 perches and a tray to collect the spillage and have seen over 25 on at a time.

Juvenile goldfinch. There should be plenty more where that came from! They tend to go around in a little flock called "a charm of goldfinches" which suits them perfectly. Glorious little birds, you'll enjoy having them visit your garden Mo, the adults bring such a lovely splash of colour.

We only get starlings and sparrows, mind you it's good watching them fight over the bread. I put it out in one lump so they have to fight over it

Apparently, given their rather exotic appearance, the goldfinch is now one of the most common garden birds.

As said you need to put out nyger seed in a special container with tiny holes and you'll get plenty more.But do fix a tray underneath as they are messy little eaters.

Yes, we used to get 20 or more regularly on the bird feeders when we had the lodge in the lakes, along with goldfinches, green finches, nuthatches, bullfinches, woodpeckers and many other types of birds.

young goldfinch, must have been a good year for them , we have more than iv ever seen, in fact one of the commonist around here at the moment.

Feeding bread to the birds won't directly harm them, unless it is mouldy but the problem with bread is it has little useful nutritional value for them. The danger is the birds will stuff themselves on the bread and not then go on to eat something which is good for them. Young birds in particular need feeding up at this time of year.
Wholemeal bread is marginally better than white but there are much better foods.

Juvenile Goldfinch as many have said already. The adult male and female both have red faces and are very difficult to tell apart unless you have a very clear view in close-up. Even then it’s not always possible.

We used to have quite a variety of birds visiting our smallish garden and goldfinches were always amongst them.

But now the fields behind our house have been left fallow along with the hedgerows and apart from the (resident) sparrows we get fewer birds visiting the bird table. Miss them.

There again the dog running around shouting at them probably doesn't help!

I sympathise but we are currently trying to train him out of it and always call him in if/when he starts.

Goldfinch, probably this years youngster, they are seed eaters-put a seed feeder out, and hopefully you’ll get them all year!
