We are travelling up North to collect our new motorhome, will be visiting exciting places such as Grantham, Sherwood Forest (got ideas from a forum member for there ?), Chesterfield, Doncaster then we wanted to see a famous northern seaside town so going to a place called Cleethorpes for fish and chips and an ice cream, then Lincoln before stopping in Nottingham en Route back to the safety of London ?

Some basic questions:
Is it cold in these places, do we need thermal clothing, coats etc
Are people easy to understand or do you need to listen carefully and speak slowly
Are people friendly up there
Do they accept debit cards or do we need to take cash
Is it safer than London
Are the roads narrow
What are their driving standards like
What type of food do they eat, I take all my own to France, wondered if I should take my own this time, I heard they fry everything even mars bars ?
Can you drink the water
Any recommendations for things to see and do, only having a day in each place to test the van out before driving back to London, if there are any issues it will be going back to the dealer on the way back to London

Thanks ?

Wow! Nothing like a cracking bit of sarcasm / humour to start the week from my favourite poster!
I would probably pick it up and head straight back ?

I'd have the van delivered to you in London. If you consider Grantham to be in 'the North' it wouldn't be safe for you to navigate. :giggle:
Oh, I forgot. No cash, no debit cards. Just beads and mirrors for the locals. Come in peace.

I spoke to Sherwood Forest and they said they had the heating on already ?. We are warm people, still in shorts and crocs, need to know whether to get the ski gear out the attic, you know the prickly things you put on under your clothes, I guess I would have to find some long trousers or would look a bit daft with those long white pant things on under my shorts, I bought some spikes that fit to your shoes from Costco last week so preparing for the trip ?

I take it there is power and phone signals up there now?

Seriously I moved from North to South and TBH little difference apart from North is more friendly and more scenic! oh and alot cheaper! Shame u on the east coast but you must do The yorkshire dales and the Lake District at some point.. and its currently raining hard down south and freezing!

I cant believe you've never been to the north of England. Do you live in a cacoon?
We only do the South, we are boaters so weekends around the south coast, in the Channel Islands and France, all summer in the SofF in the motorhome ?

I have upgraded the van to have Sat Nav, would it have Yorkshire on it? I did ask them how it got updated and and what charts were on it but the dealer had no idea ?

I have had new 3 peaks snow tyres fitted, Michelin Agilis 225/75/16 121 load rated all seasons, dealer said it was the first new van he had ever put new tyres on ? Someone told me they check you up north to see if you have the snow symbol on your tyres so I’m OK ?

Nowt!! Don’t bother, go south, nothing up here to see!
Doncaster/Kosovo nowt there it’s crap!!
chesterfield, nowt there either except a twisted church spire, download a picture instead!
Roads are tight and full of rubbish
We don’t take cards or cash, cos no one up here’s got any!
Waters very hard, too hard for southern softees!!
And we don’t like southern softees coming up with there posh coats and frocks on, but if you insist on coming up, wrap up warm cos it’s only 10 degrees at moment?

go to Lancashire instead??

Where is it up north they have all the fleas that bite you I heard about, I’ve got net things on the van, never ever used them but this might be the first, there is even one in the main had door that slides out, bought fly killer and a special blue light, the van will look like a kebab shop ? Can the fleas come in through the air vents? ?

Oh I forgot, Cleethorpes is devoid of any decent fish and chip shops!!
Lincoln’s not bad tho!!

Scotland, even I know that ?

Looks to me from your itinerary that your going to the Midlands and not the true North?

What you will find, which will probably make you feel inadequate given your preoccupation with size, is that everything is BIGGER.

Big views, big hills, big lakes and people with big hearts*

* you only get to see this if you're not a sarcastic southerner that writes with more weak double entendres then a Carry On actor. So mind how you go.

You aren’t “oop north” until the M6 is cobbled.

I wouldn’t bother trying if you think the Midlands is the North. Perhaps the border post guards will turn you back. Southern passports are not accepted in the real North.

You will see plenty of blue lights though, but they will have a police car underneath!!
