Hi does anybody know how you replace the drain valve on a Whale water heater it’s leaking under the motorhome and keeps bringing the pump on about every hour or so see pictures

That is just a lever that goes to the bottom to the valve that is located inside the end of the heater

You need to unscrew the end panel of the water heater to get access

I will see if I can find a photo or you could look on YouTube if you have the whale expanse

There is also a pressure relief valve that will dribble some water from time to time when the hot water is on. That can make the pump run now and then.

The other thing is that the drain valve can sometimes get a bit of grit in it and will not close properly. Opening and closing it a few times can help

Suffered failure of the pressure relief valve this week, went from dripping a lot to 50% of the time the pump ran it would dump its contents. Tried adjusting the pump to lower pressure to no avail, water system has no pressure acculator/damper and the valve would oscillate with the pump. Followed the youtube vid on replacement and found someone had previously been in and locktied the valve to the exhaust with 1mm2 copper wire that isn't shown on any schematics by whale. Totally pointless as the valve is held in by the case and it's inside the valve that fails either o rings or spring. The one I removed had very little spring force to overcome compared to the new one.
